Ok, so there was some drama leading up to the race. I mean breathing, it's highly over-rated! But, I did go on..as we all must do.
I was a little nervous starting out the morning of the La Jolla Half Marathong as I had experienced some breathing issues about 2 wks. prior to the race on a 12 mile training walk.
But thanks to the support and encouragement from the team in training coaches and mentors and teammates, I was able to go on and complete the half marathon in record time (for me, that is).
Even "the hill" didn't scare me.
Now, onto the final and last leg of this journey, America's Finest, in August!
Ok, so the Carlsbad 1/2 Marathon is now behind me!
This is my third year participating in this event, so I had perhaps too much confidence. I woke up Jan. 1, with a sore throat, coughing and runny nose. I hunkered down and thought if I just took it easy, I would be better in no time. Boy, was I wrong!
By the Friday the week before, I was sitting at the doctor's office, finally getting some much needed antibiotics. Still, I thought, they'll kick in and I'll be fine.
Well, I thought I was. I woke up race day, feeling OK, not great, but OK. Let's get 'er done.
I did fine until about mile 9. Great pace, just over a 13 minute/mile. Going like gangbusters. I hit the "wall" even with my race strategy that worked fine for Nike DC. I was having some problems catching my breath and all that down time was not good for my muscle memory. I did finish and I finished strong.
I walked back over to the TNT tent, felt really shaky, dizzy and shortness of breath. Quite frankly, I thought I was going to faint. My team mates took me over to the med. tent where they checked my pulse and BP. Pulse was fine, BP, not so good....80 over 45! They immediatly went to work hydrating and getting some potassium in me (bananas). After about 45 minutes to an hour, I started to perk up.
I'm fine now, but it really did scare me.
So, I've taken the last couple of weeks off. Regrouped and recouped!
On to race two! The La Jolla 1/2!
Triple Crown or bust!!
I'm now training in San Felipe, Mexico. Having just moved here I've decided to go viral with it!
I've so enjoyed my time with Team in Training and I am so pleased to have registered for another season.
Your donation will help fund treatments that save lives every day; like immnuotherapies that use a person’s own immune system to kill cancer. You may not know it, but every single donation helps save a life with breakthrough therapies such as these.
Patients, families and friends need these cures and they need your support.
Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help get us all closer to a world without blood cancers.
Come on! We can do this!!! The Turnaround Point is HERE!
Thank you!
