Hello and welcome.
Let me introduce you to a friend of mine.
Her name is Sophia. Sophia loves to swim, she's learning French in kindergarten, and when she grows up, she wants to be a cupcake baker.
She's been fighting leukemia for two and a half years!
Would YOU like to fight blood cancer, and help adults and kids like Sophia out?
You can, RIGHT NOW. Here's how:
I have signed up to compete in the 2012 San Diego Triathlon Classic to be held September 8th.
Swim 1500 meters, then bike 40 hilly kilometers, then run a 10K.
This will be my first attempt at a tri, and I need your support!
I am participating as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
This is where your support comes in. My goal is to raise $2,000 for LLS by August 25th.
75% of the donations up to the goal amount and 100% of the donations over the goal amount go to support research and providing assistance to families undergoing treatment.
Please consider making a donation of any size to help fight blood cancer. Every dollar counts, and every dollar is 100% tax deductible! If your employer offers matching gifts to charity, your donation can do even more, so please check with your HR department!
Thank You for Your Support!
TRAINING: WEEKS 12 & 13:
Getting closer to race day!!!
TRAINING: WEEKS 10 & 11:
What an amazing couple of weeks this has been. First, I am deeply humbled by the generosity of all my family, loved ones, and friends. This is turning out to be a profound personal experience that will stay with me the rest of my life.
Second, training-wise, things are going great. I feel strong on the bike, and my run, while slow, is steady. Swimming, especially open water, continues to be a challenge, both mental and physical. A little more than a month to conquer it. I know I could not do it without the amazing moral support from everyone around me, especially Jessica and the boys. I feel so lucky every day. :)
TRAINING: WEEKS 7, 8, and 9!
It's all starting to come together :) On Saturday, I donned a wetsuit and did my first open water swim in Mission Bay - very humbling! I have a lot of work ahead of me in the swim department. The good news is that I shaved about 6% off my swim time trial. Also this past Saturday, the cycling workout was FOUR repeats up Mt. Soledad. I had never attempted it even once. Lastly, running: I need to stretch my calves more after a workout. The old tendons are getting sore. Fundraising is going strong - I was the top fundraiser for the week! Thanks for all your support!
TRAINING: WEEK 6
This week was for "active recovery" which means I took it easy. I swam slowly, jogged slowly, and had a nice leisurely 30 mi bike ride around San Diego Bay. Next week: back to the regularly scheduled workouts!
TRAINING: WEEK 5
Wow, riding up Torrey Pines was tough once, but I managed to do it four times on Saturday! I feel great on the bike, and I'm up to 4 miles for my running workouts. Thanks to Delio for training with me on my weekday jogs!
TRAINING: WEEK 4
Well another week in the can! My swim skill took a quantum leap forward - I don't thrash around in the water quite as much as before :) Jessica and the boys are being super patient - I couldn't do this without them.
TRAINING: WEEK 3
Big improvement in my swimming. I think all those drills are paying off. Hamstring feels OK, too. I hope the donations pick up!
TRAINING: WEEK 2
I feel MUCH stronger this week. Other than a slight hamstring issue on Thursday, I was able to complete the workouts before exhaustion set in :) Thanks to all those who have so generously donated. You all ROCK!
TRAINING: WEEK 1
After the first Swim workout, I almost threw up :)
At the end of Week 1, I am sore from head to toe, and eager to get the fundraising going. GO TEAM!
