I run for those that can't

Dear Friends,

When I started this journey a couple of years ago it was a way for me to meet new people and train to run marathons. I didn't know what joining Team in Training would do to me.

I've met lots of people, but the most memorable are the ones that are battling cancer or better yet who are cancer survivors.

I've been met lately with; "why would you want to run that far...", "you know it's not good for you", "you're crazy". Even though I've chuckled at these comments they didn't stop me. Why? Let me tell you a story.

I run with a friend I met last spring. She's young, energetic, happy and she is a cancer survivor. She is not only in need of a cure, she's also running for one. She has had to take time off of her marathon training to battle this disease, but in full remission she completed her first marathon last spring!

She was training to run the Carlsbad in January when she got injured. Then a routine check up led to round 3 of the return of her cancer. Her words about the return? "We are going to kick this to the curb".

My original Mentor (M.O.M.) Sarah is young, beautiful, happy and is the mother of a 2 year old. She also has a tumor at the base of her brain that has now grown to twice it's original size.

So go ahead, ask me why I run so far? It's for them and others like them. Until there's a cure I'm not going to stop and this time I get the privilege to be a mentor which means I get to help others get across the finish line.

So while I do all the work, all I ask is for a small donation, whatever it is that you can manage to give; $5, $10, $15 every bit helps. All together we will beat this. Who knows, the life you help to save may be that of someone you love or yourself.

As my friend says "CURES ROCK" so let's find one.

Peace,

Cathy
