Walking to Save Lives Welcome to my Team In Training home page. I'm training to walk the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training . All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this marathon in memory of my mom-in-law who lost her battle with leukemia this January 3rd and for all individuals who are currently battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Your gift is 100% tax deductible and your credit card statement serves as a receipt. Simply click the "DONATE NOW" to the right of our picture, and help us find a cure. Please check back frequently for updates on my progress. I'm not letting my asthma stop me from participating in this important event and I hope you'll join me and support this worthy cause. Donations of all sizes are very appreciated. Thank you for helping, Denise ________________________________ 5/9/09 20 Miles! This was the dry run to make sure we're well prepared for the actual day. I have to say that it was an amazing feeling to finish the 20 miles and feel GREAT both physically and mentally at the end of it. I attribute it to so many things, first and foremost - great coaching - Thank you Susan, Cheryl, John, my mentor Debbie as well as all the other mentors out there giving their time and encouragement and dedication not only to us, but to the cause. The commradierie of our fellow team members is undescribable and without it, our journey just wouldn't be the same. Certainly not last, our families. The support group that lives with us day in and day out. Eddie, Andy and Josh have supported me every step of the way - understanding when I wake them up for those early morning training sessions and come home well past dinner for the mid-week training sessions in addition to other weekly training (thanks Char). Thanks for understanding my love of Thorlo socks and the excitement of a fresh pair of shoes! I couldn't do it without you. ;) I can never forget the reason for my participation - the quest for a cure, and for "Mom". A woman I adored who fought valiantly and gracefully til the end. Love ya Mom. ==================================================== 4/25/09 18 Miles! Today is out second longest walk before the big day. We'll back down for a week then walk 20 miles. Time to test what's going to work best in terms of food/hydration/energy etc. 3/7/09 Completed 11 miles -woohoo! ==================================================== 2/28/09 Completed 8 miles and learned that Jelly Belly makes sports beans - you know my sweet tooth.. ;) ___________________________________ |
