Still Fighting Cancer -- One Step at a Time
Here I am again -- on the road for a fifth season with Team in Training and a fifth marathon. The four seasons I've spent with TNT have been quite a journey. My first program was just a "get me through this alive" thing (me with my 26.2 pin).
The second time around, I pushed to cut almost an hour from my previous time (happier days during my second marathon).
The third program was personal -- Mom received a cancer diagnosis that knocked us for a loop, and that marathon represented my personal dedication to raising money for cancer research (in Seattle, waiting for the start of the third marathon).
And the fourth program I finished with Team in Training was the Mardi Gras Rock & Roll Half in New Orleans. No surprise that that one was just for fun (me and my mentor home girls, dressed for the Inspiration Dinner).
Now I'm at it again. This fifth program is both a celebration of life and a dedication to health. The best news is about Mom... although two years ago they told us that her cancer was not going to get better, umm... she got better! Lots better. She's back to living as if she's going to live. And that's so awesome.
So I'm running to celebrate her life, and I'm returning to a higher level of dedication to running. I drifted pretty far off track with my training with Mom's diagnosis, and I'm excited to push myself at the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco this fall.
Thank you so much for your support of my efforts. Your donations help people like Mom find the drugs they need to keep the cancer at bay. We need the money for research so we keep having breakthroughs. And I'm happy to pound out the miles and raise the money so we can make a difference together. All you have to do is give a little.
So, click the button, send in your check, throw money in the hat. I'm thankful that you're contributing.
(This effort is a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.)
