Starting 2010 on the Run!
The other day I listened to the mother of a 7-year-old leukemia survivor talk about her hopes for finding a cure. It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and I was preparing for a 15-mile run with a group of runners.
"It's going to happen in our lifetime," she said. "It has to happen in our lifetime, that we can find a cure to end the suffering of the thousands and thousands of children who have leukemia and lymphoma."
I tell ya... listening to the optimism in her voice really got to me. Sometimes when we're running along for mile after mile after mile, we forget why we're here. But as I started my run after her moving words, I thought about what impact we can make on lives like hers.
The impact I can make is to commit to raise both money and awareness about leukemia and lymphoma. This time I'm headed to New Orleans to run my fifth marathon in The Big Easy (Feb. 28, 2010). This time I'm a mentor for The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In
Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin
lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I am completing this event both to honor my mother who is still battling thyroid cancer and in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are
the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the
ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a
donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance
LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
