Thank you everybody who has donated their time, mental energy, and support. This momumental day and biggest race of my life is coming soon. Gulp. I have trained hard for this, so I am as ready as they come. I pray on race day that all the karma lines up...like no losing my goggles, no bike mechanicals, and legs find extra energy on the run. I will get to that finish line, with all of you in my thoughts along the way. I might be cussin at some, crying for others, smiling for the rest :), but WE will get to that finish line!!!
We are in the deepest and hardest part of our training for the month of January. The weekend is booked with swimming, riding, and running. Yesterday we rode 92 miles from the coast, up and around Valley Center, Lake Wohlford Road, Cole Grade, and then back. On the way back I saw that Del Mar Heights Road. One of my teammates reminded me that this last climb was for Tanya. It was hard and it hurt, but I did it. I hope you know that Tanya.
Today is a long run....will get that done with a great spirit in my heart.
It was one year ago today that my cubemate, Tanya, lost her battle with lung cancer. Her life was cut way too short. I miss instant messaging with her during the day, and always wondering what new techie toy she bought.
Your butterfly pin is still with me in my cycle bag, Tanya. Today's run is for you!
I have a new appreciation for running. I thought my legs were dead after 4 hours of riding round Fiesta Island (good thing there were dogs to look at) and a 40 minute transition run, I was wondering what I would have today for a 2 hour run. But after hearing a phrase from the Kona Ironman commentator, "Is that the limit?", that is my new mantra. If I feel tired, I will say, "is that your limit?". No way...more in the tank. Needless to say I had a great 2 hour run today....could have kept going and going! That IS not my limit!
We are below the 90 day mark for Ironman New Zealand. So after watching the Kona Ironman World Championships yesterday, I am thinking we are really crazy. However after hearing more cancer stories and learning that one of our pet therapy leads came down with leukemia in the past month, any pain or fatigue I may experience now or on event day pails in comparison to these others. Just keep moving forward.
