Julianna Renee Farley in top picture with me in 1982. She changed my life and the life of thousands of others.
Long time friend, golfing buddy and Honored Teammate Vince McGrath below Julianna. 11 year survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

My good friend Randy's dad and son. Both named Kenneth. Grandpa holding his Grandson in the hospital. Unfortunately Randy’s dad passed from Leukemia not long after this picture. I will be swimming with Randy’s dads name on my wetsuit to honor him and all of the dads.

This is my good friend John who has been battling Non Hodgkins Lymphomia. John name will be on my bike outfit to honor him and all the people living with blood cancers.

This is my best friends dad Gareth who survice Leukemia in the early 70's when the survival rate was less than 20%. Gareth lived to 85 but was taken from us when the Leukemia came back. I'll be wearing his name on my running outfit to remind me to never give up.
Welcome to my Team in Training Iron Man home page!
This year I have decided to do something completely out of my comfort zone. I will be competing in my first Triathlon. Not just any Triathlon but the New Zealand Ironman! That means that I have to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and then run 26.2 miles all in the same day! Go big or go home is my motto!
Most of you know me as a coach for TNT and a marathoner. What you probably don't know is why I do what I do for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In 1980 I became a platelet donor for an 8 year old girl with Leukemia. Her name was Julianna Renee Farley. Julie and her family were very special people in my life but Leukemia kills and Julie passed away on February 9th, 1981. My heart was broken over the loss and it took years to heal. My daughter was born 4 months later and we named her Julianna Renee Martin after Julie.
In 1996 a beautiful women and friend of mine named Sheila Stogsdill was diagnosed with Mantel Cell Lymphoma. Sheila was like a second mother to me and the thought of losing her was devastating. I felt helpless to do anything for Sheila until I found Team in Training. Team in Training gave me a way to help by raising funds for research. Sheila was given only a few months to live in 1996 but new drugs and new stem cell transplant procedures were coming out continuously during this time. These kept her alive and living well for almost 4 years. Those four years were a gift for all of us.
I made a decision after Sheila passed that I would continue to help find a cure for blood cancers. In these past 15 years several other friends of mine have been diagnosed with Leukemia or Lymphoma. It is those friends like Vince, Jules, George, Sarah along with Julie and Sheila who inspire me to keep fundraising to find a cure.
Please make a donation to support my goal in finding a cure.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
