Despite Setbacks, The Race Goes On...

First of all, THANK YOU! On Friday, October 10th, thanks to YOU, I reached a key goal, raising more than $2,000 in the fight against blood related cancers. Thank you for all your support now and in the future.

On a sad note, twelve days ago on Saturday Oct 11th I was hospitalized for an unexpected recurrence of a chronic gastrointestinal (GI) bleed in my colon. Fortunately this time, the doctors found an active bleed via MRI, enabling the doctors to "localize" the affected area, so they could target it for extraction. I had a succesful partial colectomy that next day.

While the overall prognosis is good, this does mean I obviously won't be running in the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon this Sunday. Even I can't recover that fast from major surgery, especially with an incision in my abdomen.

On a postive note, I've talked with the great folks at Team In Training (TNT), and the good news is all the funds you've donated will still go (via LLS) towards fighting leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related cancers. Some of it will go for the support of others running this weekend... and most will count toward an event I can participate in during 2009 with my Team (possible RNR 2009). In all cases, your money will go for the cause.

Please allow me to thank you for your support, both through TNT and offline. Your prayers and kind words of encouragement have meant a lot during this period, as I recover and take stock. My goal is to rest now, and resume a healthy level of activity long-term , with a reasonable expectation to help with a TNT event in the future. I look forward to recovering fully and continuing to help others fight blood related cancers in the future.

Once again, thank you for your support!

Still fighting alongside his Honored Teammates,

-Carl D. Flores

P.S. If you'd like to join us in an even more dynamic way, like, say, running a marathon, or hiking the Grand Canyon, click on the "FIND OUT MORE" TNT button on the left hand side.
