Racing for a Cure, One Step at a Time

Hi everybody! You've already taken that first step in the right direction just by coming to my page, so thanks for wanting to know more about the mission. I do love to talk... But I'll do my best to keep it short so I don't lose your interest.

I'm training to run the full Carlsbad Marathon in January as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. (Yes, I do realize that a marathon is 26.2 miles!) All of us on "The Team" are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. As of Dec. 7, our team has raised approximately $105,000 over the course of this training season, or around 4 & 1/2 months. There are chapters all across the United States raising funds for the same goal, so the Team is really working hard to find a cure for blood cancers.

I ran SEVENTEEN MILES Dec. 7, which is the farthest I've ever run in my life! I also ran the Long Beach Half Marathon in October, finishing in a time of 2:11:32 at an average pace of 10:02/mi over the course of 13.1 miles. This training has helped me personally understand the importance of setting a goal and sticking with it, as well as given me some monster quads.

A lot of our runners are cancer survivors, friends or relatives of survivors, or friends/relatives of someone who didn't win the battle with cancer... Thoughts of them and their personal struggles inspire me to keep going when my legs and lungs start to wear out; sometimes it literally makes my eyes tear up. I hope thinking of them, or anyone you know personally who has battled cancer, will inspire you to help with our goal.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Anything you can give helps in the race to find a cure, which is the most important race of all.

I'll update this page often, so keep checking back for more info.
