Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Rock and Roll Marathon 2010 Team In Training home page.
I'm participating in the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon in a completely new way this year. I am riding my bike! We will be escoring hand cyclists and wheel chair athletes at the head of the marathon. We will start 5 minutes before the rest of the participants, so we will have about 30,000 people chasing us.
Why am I doin this? This is an endurance event of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals, including myself, who are battling blood cancers. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Why am I so passionate about this cause? I am one of the few people I have heard of who have survived two allogeneic stem cell transplants for severe cases of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. I am still suffering from side effects of my second transplant, although the cancer appears to be gone. However, if my leukemia returns again a third time, the stem cell transplant will not be a treatment option, and there is no other good way of curing or controlling the disease. So I am very personally committed to finding a better cure. Even if I don't get leukemia again, I don't think anyone should ever have to go through the horrors I have been through. You can see more of my story on my web page, www.wilcoxent.com.
I would welcome all assistance to make my dream of a world without blood cancers become a reality. For the Rock and Roll Marathon, I am raising $250.00. If you would like to be part of the heroic effort to find a cure, please make a donation, however small, to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Share this site with your friends and ask them to help too!
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
