My Fundraising Page

Feb 11, 2012

Greetings all who visit my pages and thank you,

I ran my first 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) last year with Team in Training (TNT). I began this journey last year due to a very personal connection; my best friend’s husband lost his battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma October 31st 2007.

Since joining TNT I find that at there are more people than I ever knew who are still fighting and have not lost the battle and they thank me personally for my efforts to raise money that helps fund research to find new treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. LLS also provides critical education and support to patients and their families to help improve their quality of life while battling Leukemia, Lymphoma and various blood cancers.

Many of my TNT teammates are like myself that have never run more than a 10k, others have been doing this for season after season due to their own personal connections and then those who are survivors that are running right next to me (ok a little ahead of me) and we all come together for this common goal.

LLS founded in 1949, is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services. In 2010 there were 77,159 inquires in 165 languages, those inquires resulted in 438,105 telephone and web-based program participants all provided for free to these people struggling with a serious life altering experience for free. These services are able to be free due to people like my teammates who raise funds by reaching out to people like yourself. I can go on and on with numbers and figures but they do not tug at your heart strings which is what I need to do so that you understand the necessity of my fundraising efforts.

I once again came in personal contact with the life altering effects of a person struck by blood cancer. A coworker’s husband is deep in his battle against a rare blood cancer. Can you imagine what it would be like to go through fighting cancer with your soul mate, watching your partners physical abilities diminish and at this same time work your 40 hour a week job where you must maintain your focus and with all of this going on you hit the road blocks presented health insurance telling you these drugs are not covered or copays that are far more than you have ever expected. I was proud to be able to refer my coworker to LLS so that she could receive the support that this amazing and wonderful organization provides.

How many people in your life have been affected by one of these cancers?

My promise is that I will run my endurance event standing up for all the people, in your life and mine, so that while we continue to fund the research to find a cure, the patients and families are able to receive at no cost education and financial assistance.

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
