Racing to Save Lives Welcome to Margaret's (Maggie's) Team In Training home page! We have all known someone in our lives who has been touched by cancer. Team in Training is a national program which has helped to raise over $850 million dollars over 20 years for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The LLS's mission is to find a cure and support patients and family members affected by blood cancers. More than 75 % of the funds raised are spent on research, patient services and education. All contributions are 100% tax-deductible . The run (26.2 miles) is in San Diego. I must raise $4100.00 by March 31st. With your donation to this cause we will become a team. I promise to complete this marathon in honor and memory of all Our family and friends who are and have battled cancer; even if I have to crawl the last mile or two. Please help me raise funds also to give thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and researchers expecially at Greenville Hospital System who have helped each of our loved ones in their fight. I had each of these names and those of your loved ones on the back of my t-shirt: Deana Reynolds, diagnosed w/lymphoma, Leah Hempfling, MJ Grasso, Regina McKenzie, Mary Joesten, Michela Finnell, Pattie Finnell, Brayden Mooney, Darrell Quinn, Kim Foerster, Mary Lou Crowley, Brad Reed, David Tanner, John Schroeder, Milton Grimes, Julie Baer, Lisa Norton, Connie, Marie, Cindy, Abby and most of all my father, Bill Finnell, SR. Whom along with my Mother stated that he hopes he's well enough to meet me at the finish line! Also, in memory of my cousin Andrea Coleman, my aunts: Carolyn Holohan, Lorraine Finnell, William J. Smith, Faye Darnell, David Darnell, Kathleen Wannamacher, Mr. Wannamacher, Jimmy Jewell, Andrew Stanton, Charlie Chapman, Alex Haigler, Henry Colson, James and Geraldine Arnetz, Frank Advent, Gordon L. Cox and my cousin, Raymond, who succumbed to the disease of leukemia - when he was only 16-years-old. Thanks for your support! Margaret Finnell Hoverath (aka Maggie) WE DID IT!! I wore my shirt with honor with ALL of the names on the back and each person carried me to mile 14 without stopping! Then I began to walk through the water stops!!! Amazing week and over 8.2 million dollars raised for research!! A wonderful experience all the way around. That's me - in between my Mom and Dad with my cousin Jen, her husband and my two youngest boys!! May 26, 2009 WOW! Only 5 days left to the marathon! I'm a bit nervous. Although I've trained hard and consistently for several weeks, months, this is it!! (Let's just hope they don't pull me off the course and I can finish!) Thanks so much for your support. May 7, 2009 Thanks to my many donors I am one of the top 3 (3rd place) highest fund raisers for San Diego so far! YOU ALL ARE WONDERFUL!! I can't imagine the amount of money that has been raised so far. This weekend my training calls for 20 miles! I can't believe we are so close to May 31st! April 20, 2009 Running up to 15 miles!! Recently learned about MJ Grasso, diagnosed March 19th. To many people, to many lives. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to "run" this disease outta here!! April 7, 2009 Ran in Charleston for the Cooper River Run - 6.1 miles w/my friend Suzy. We had a great time!! So much fun and recommend it to everyone! A great way to see Charleston! "Walked" the course at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga. with my husband yesterday. Another great time! Today spending the day for a much needed "cleaning of my house"!! Mar. 30, 2009 New discovery: "bad diet = bad workout".... Oh! I love my chocolate! Thankfully a nutrition seminar is schelduled soon! Thank you all so much for your incredible support. Tough week of training but with your inspiration I am back on track! Mar. 15, 2009 Ran 10 miles yesterday w/out stopping! Felt great and a very positive run in the rain! Lots of fun. So excited to be so close to my goal! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Please continue prayers for Deana she has had a relapse and is in ICU. Mar. 9, 2009 Training is going well although 26.2 miles is a long way! Prayers for Deana are working her prognosis is better and new treatments are working! Feb. 26, 2009 Please pray for Leah! The doctor's are fearful that the cancer has spread into major organs. Also continue to pray for Deana ~ her prognosis is tough as well. Such fighters! Let's find a cure! Feb. 22, 2009 Please pray for Deana ~ as she is having a difficult time w/treatment. Great run on Saturday ~ very determined! Feb 17, 2009 Third week of training underway! |
