Mark's running for a cure! Jan 26, 2009 by Mark Harmon: No, it's not a rumor...

Mark Harmon is running a MARATHON!

I'm training to participate in the Rock 'N' Roll Marathon as part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. Everone who takes part in Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in memory of my best friend and mother - Sharon Harmon.

Because of funds raised for research by groups like Team in Training and LLS, my mom was able to take part in a clinical trail chemotherapy especially for adults with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia at Emory University. Although she wasn't able to finish the therapy, this chemo was able to treat her Adult ALL where other drugs had failed, and will continue to treat and cure other patients with adult ALL.

Throughout my mom's journey, everyone made note of her smile. It was always there, always comforting. There was no treatment, no diagnosis, no pain that kept her from smiling and saying she felt "GREAT!" Running a marathon should be a piece of cake ;)
