Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

Sunday May 24- Today was our first Sunday morning team run and it was pouring rain when my alarm went off. I made an executive decision to put off my run until later in the day. As it turns out, I traded pouring rain for stifling heat and humidity. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes. I really am looking forward to company as the runs get longer. Thanks for checking on my site!

Sunday May 31 - I went out this am and ran downtown with my other team members . I had a great time! The weather was great and it was a lot of fun to run with some new friends. The miles really did fly by. Hope eveyone is having a good weekend. Anne

Thursday, June 11- I told you in my letter that keeping up with my web page would be my biggest challenge! Thanks to everyone who has donated by mail or on line. I am continuing to work hard at my training, we are adding miles every week. Last Sunday we had rain again, and everyone got wet, but still had a good time. This Sunday the half marathon group will run 5 miles. A few weeks ago that would have seemed scary, but with my group the miles go so quickly! Thanks again for you support, I'll update soon. Anne

Monday,June 15- Yesterday my half marathon group didn't make it to the morning run, so I ran with some of the triathlon group. We ran about 5 1/2 miles at a 6:1 interval (we ran 6 minutes and walked 1 minute). It was pretty hot, but we still had a good time. It was nice that my feet stayed dry! today was a rest day, but I'll be up tomorrow at 5:25 am to get in my daily run..Thanks again for all the contributions, I sent in my first group of checks last Friday. More soon. Anne

Sunday, June 21- I'm so excited! I ran with the triathlon group again today and we ran 8 miles! I won't say I wasn't tired when we finished, but my legs felt good. That is the longest I've run in a couple of years. San Francisco here I come! Thanks for your interest and support! Anne

Sunday, June 28- Boy it was really hot today! I think it was already in the lw 80's when we started this morning at 7 am. We ran about 6 miles today; down Murray Blvd to the Battery and then to the Aquarium. We could just make out he masts of the tall ships that are here for Harbor Fest as we ran past the cruise ship terminal. Everyone was in a good mood despite the high temps. Stay tuned for more next week! Take care Anne

Sunday July 5- Well I hope eveyone had a great 4th! Unfortunately 2 of my 3 dogs are afraid of fireworks, so this holiday is stressful at our house. Overall not too bad this year. We did our long run on Saturday morning , so I got to sleep in this morning! I did ride my bike over the bridge and back to cross train a little, the views were beautiful as always. As you can see, I'm getting close to my fund raising goal - THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE DONATED!! If you haven't donated yet, please do so if you can - it is a great cause and the more money I raise, the more money that will go to help cure blood cancers. More next week. Anne

Thursday, July23- Sorry , I know I've been slack about updating everyone, but I promise I'm on top of my training! I'm running 3-4 times during the week (12-14 miles total), then my long run on Sunday has been 8 miles for the last 2 weeks. This weekend I'm going out of town, so I did my lng run today by myself. I really did miss the company of the team! I look forward to doing next week's run with the group. I can't thank everyone enough for the financial and emotional support. More soon. Anne

Thursday, August 13- Once agin I've gotten slack about my updates. On the high side I sent in all my paperwork today, so I'm on my way! On the down side I'm nursing a sore IT band in my left hip and that is frustrating. I haven't run in a week and I'm going through withdrawal! I know it will be better soon. Thanks for the support. Anne

Friday,August 28- Well, my hip is doing btter thanks to lots of streching, ice and a therapeutic massage. (Wouldn't it be nice to be able to get a massage every week?) So this week I'm going for 10 miles, which is my longest run so far! Honestly, I'm a little nervous, but I think I'll do fine. Not much longer now, the race is less than 2months away! Thanks for sticking with me. Take care, Anne

Sunday-Sept 6-Wow! I can't believe it's Labor Day weekend! Our race is 6 weeks from today! Last Sunday we ran 10 miles and it went well, even though it was really hot and humid. I ran 10 miles again today and it was so much cooler., we had a great breeze for a good bit of the run. I started my run today with the marathon group and finished it with Andrew who is doing a triathlon in 2 weeks. I know I kept a faster pace finishing my run with him, it was a good challenge for me. Five more Sunday runs and we're done! I'm starting to get a little nervous about my finishing time, but it's all good. More later, thanks again for you good wishes. Anne

Sunday, Sept 13- We had an easy run today, only 6 miles! I almost felt guilty doing such a short run. Did I just say 6 miles was short? Next Sunday we do 12 miles, our longest run yet. ( the marathon group ran 20 miles today- I'm so impressed!) Countdown- 4 more Sunday runs, then THE RACE! More later-Anne

Sunday, Oct 11- Last team run this morning! We all did 10 miles and felt great! I have enjoyed my team runs, but I won't miss that 5:15 am alarm on Sunday mornings. We leave on Friday morning for California and the race is on Sunday. I can't believe it is here! I'll let you know how it goes, I know we will all do GREAT! Thank you again for your donations and good wishes. Together we will cure blood cancers! Anne
