Racing to Save Lives!!!

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

Dear Friends, Family & Co-Workers,

As if being a recent homeowner wasn’t enough of a challenge for this year, I have decided to embark upon another physical and mental challenge, I have signed up to run a marathon. Don’t laugh! I know I have always been the type to drive if the distance was more than half a mile, but things have changed, at least for now. I will be training with the world’s largest endurance sports training program, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training (TNT) to do the Nike Women’s Full Marathon in San Francisco on October 18, 2009. LLS is a non-profit organization whose mission is to get closer to a cure for Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and Myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

I am not doing this to prove that I can run 26.2 miles…Yikes! I am doing this in memory of my brother, Gustavo, who unfortunately, at the age of 15, was not able to win the battle against Leukemia. As part of his treatment I was going to be his bone marrow donor, but he was unable to continue fighting against the disease. I felt I had some unfinished business with Leukemia. This is my way of helping others continue with their battle. Throughout my training and on race day I will be wearing a bracelet with his name to remind myself that while a marathon is certainly a challenge, the real strength and inspiration comes from the individuals inflicted with and who battle this disease daily.

Besides the daunting task of running 26.2 miles, I have committed to raising $2,401.00. In order to accomplish this I need your help. The funds raised are used for research, medical needs, family support services and education. Leukemia is the leading killer of children under the age of 15! The challenges I will face over the next couple of months does not compare to what the victims and family members of those afflicted by this disease have to endure.

Please consider making a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. Contributions by check make payable to LLS, sent to the address below or you may make a donation online by visiting my website.

The people who have fought and are fighting cancer are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! If you would like me to run in memory or in honor of a loved one who is fighting cancer, let me know, I would be honored to do so.

Be sure you visit my website to see my progress.

With love, gratitude, and a few sore muscles,

Teresa
