Racing to Save Lives Dear Family and Friends, I am writing to let you know that I have decided to take part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training program in honor of my husband Adam Aguilar who died on May 21st. On Sunday, October 19, 2008, I will be running a half marathon (13.5 miles) in San Francisco. This program provides coaches, mentors and teammates whose support will help me cross the finish line. More importantly even than my physical commitment to the program is my commitment to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in its effort to battle Lymphoma and related cancers. These diseases strike some 107,000 Americans each year. In May of this year, my husband Adam was one of those Americans. With such personal experience with this disease, I am committed to helping raise awareness and make a difference. I am running in honor of my husband, Adam Aguilar. Adam and I would have celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this September. We were blessed with a beautiful son Adam Jr. (AJ) who is 3 years old. Adam began suffering from headaches and backaches early this year. Since these are not typical symptoms of lymphoma, doctors were baffled. His lymphoma diagnosis came in May and he died weeks later. Needless to say, we were totally caught off guard. Adam had always been health conscious. His favorite thing to do was to work out at the gym and he always encouraged me to do the same. This is just another reason why accomplishing this goal is so important. My life has dramatically changed and I feel this marathon is important for me and will help me mentally and physically during this difficult time. My introduction to Team in Training seemed to come from nowhere. I now believe Adam has put the signs in my path and is encouraging and giving me signs from heaven to do it. I have committed to raise $2500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I would really appreciate your financial and emotional support in this venture. A minimum of 75% of your tax-deductible financial contribution goes directly to research and patient programs. 100% of your moral support and good wishes goes directly to my heart! Check out my training website and donate online by going to: http://pages.teamintraining.org/sac/nikesf08/kaguilatuk Every little bit brings us one stop closer to a cure! Please know that I will carry your support across the finish line! I'd love to hear from you donation or not! Take care and I hope to hear from you soon! Big heartfelt thanks, Katherine Aguilar |
