It was an amazing day!
Thanks to Chevys and to YOU, I will reach my new fundraising goal! I am running a 2nd race in Anchorage, Alaska on June 18th. The money still goes to TNT cancer research programs, and I am Still running. I appreciate that I still have your attention and generous donations. This time all you have to do is go to any Chevys in Sacramento- mention this flier and Chevys will do the rest!
Thank you to everyone for their continued support!
Welcome to Kate's Team In Training home page.
Hi everyone!
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. The primary focus of Team In Training is to raise funds to help stop blood cancers from taking more lives. I am currently training to complete my first half marathon in honor of my mom and others who are battling cancer.
My mom Melanie
Mom passed away December 2008 after too short a fight with bladder cancer that metastisized to her liver and lungs. Though not techinically a 'blood cancer', advancements in all areas of drug therapy lead to success in the war against all forms of cancer.
The people who fight this deadly disease and the families who care for them as they do so are the real heroes on our team. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
My mom always told me "No regrets Sugar, and have some fun!"
She was determined, optimistic and tough. I loved her laugh.
I know she believes in me; I hope you will too.
Help me plod, run, walk, stagger across 13.1 miles for my mom and everyone who has been touched by cancer. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
To all I wish health and happiness in 2011,
Kate
Bill, George, and Me after the run
It is 38 degrees. It is 6:45 am. The first fact alone would ordinarily make me scramble back to my warm bed waiting warmer times. The first two facts combined should really make me chuckle at all the people out and about...as I scramble back to my warm bed. Not today. Not any day these days.
I stare at my workout wardrobe... what does one wear to stand around in 38 degrees and then run and sweat in 38 degrees? Tricky. That quandry has allowed no time for breakfast so I chew on a protein bar while driving to meet other teammates for our Saturday morning run.
Thank you cannot really express how I feel toward the contributors on that list. I see your names when I want to crawl back under the covers...and when I want to turn around at mile 2.
My face felt frozen, as if numbed by the dentist, making normal speech seem awfully difficult... embarrassing. But I am an endurance athlete! At least that's what our mentors call us. I like the sound of that.
I ran 6.6 miles today. Us half-marathoners only had to run 5, but fellow team members Bill and Heather and I got caught up in a story and there we were plugging along toward what turned out to be an extra mile. Running an extra mile, I hardly know what to think of that. Maybe we are like mailmen: "Through rain, sleet, and snow..."
Please no snow.
Many many thanks to those who have donated and those yet to come,
Kate
