Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to Terrye and Eric's Team In Training home page.
We're training to participate in an endurance event as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We are completing this event in honor of two good friends, Nancy and Joan who are battling this disease right now. Nancy and Joan are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
UPDATE: 8/16/08 :
Well folks we're doing pretty good. So far we've raised $1,743.00. It doesn't show yet on our thermometer, but it will soon. I've sent them some of the checks and I guess it takes awhile for LLS to update the page! Both Eric and I want to thank all of you who have donated so far and thank all of you who have yet to send in your donation but are planning to.
As far as the training in going - yesterday Eric ran 6 miles and I ran/walked 5 miles!!!! I'm pretty darn proud of both of us and it's your donations that keep us going. (I know I just keep thinking, I can't let the folks who are supporting us down - so I keep going to all these early am trainings, no matter what!) So, you can see how great the donations have been, not only to LLS but to Eric and I also.
Thanks again, and I'll update further down the road.
We're getting close to our re-commitment date of August 28th - SO KEEP THOSE DONATIONS COMING, AND, THANKS SO MUCH AGAIN!!!
We hope you will visit our web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see our progress. Thanks for your support!
UPDATE 9/8/08:
Hello again - Welcome back! Well, as you can see we have changed the personal goal to $2,500. Unfortunately, Eric and I were not able to meet our personal goal of $5,000 for both of us by the recommitment date of August 28th. Because of this only 1 of us could recommit, and Eric insisted it be me (since it was my idea in the first place). However, for all of you who donated for Eric don't worry because he is going to run the race as well as me!!! Since we both have worked so hard, we went to the race site and signed Eric up to run - so we'll both be there running - one on behalf of Team in Training and one on behalf of the team of Terrye and Eric Temple but both in support of LLS. Yeah - should be fun!
As far as training goes - I (Terrye) have been on vacation for the last 10 days so I'll just be getting back to running after a time off - should be interesting. Eric has been running at home until I got back so I'll probably be sore again for a few times until I get my feet under me again, but Eric should be good to go. We'll update again in a couple of weeks as we get closer.
And, to all of you, and there have been MANY, who have donated to us for LLS, thank you so much again, and again, and again.
UPDATE 9/26/08:
Hello once more - I have some "not so good" news. Remember that "Nike Women's Marathon" race that I signed Eric up for so he could run with me? Well, it turns out I signed him up for a "virtual" race, not the REAL thing. Dummy me, I didn't know. Nowhere did it say anything about it being a "virtual" race!!!! Well, I did get my money back, but Eric isn't running the race with me. I took it really hard - I mean he's been training with me and he's my running buddy - so it made me very sad. And, I have to be honest with you, I kinda gave up and didn't even want to run myself! THEN, I remembered why I was running. It's for Nancy and Joan and now for the additional 8 folks whose names I will add to my bracelet and run for - that's why I'm running. Eric and I will get our chance to run in another race - a different one, but we will run together.
And so, through it all, I plod on - last weekend I ran 8 miles in 2:08! Sounds like a slow pace, but we ran up and down the streets of San Francisco - kind of a prep race for the Nike. It was crazy, but fun. Should be a great race!
Gotta go, as as you can see I surpassed my $2,500 - thanks to all of you! I thank you and so does LLS!
