RACING FOR A CURE, A MILE AT A TIME!
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Here I am again, beginning fundraising and training for my fourth half marathon with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT). On May 1, 2011, I will join with other TNT participants at the Avenue of the Giants Half Marathon on the beautiful California north coast. John and I are excited about this as it is one of our favorite places!
Over the past three years due to the generosity of so many of you, I have been able to raise nearly $18,000.00 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
In 2007, John was diagnosed with a stage 3 aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He immediately started on a chemo regimen called R-CHOP, the "R" standing for Rituxin. The chemo was difficult, but today John is doing well. Rituxin was a fairly new targeted drug that was made possible through partial funding by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For that we are forever grateful, as it has given us three and a half years of enjoying the everyday things that many of us often take for granted. We have had an opportunity to enjoy our two little grandsons, Finnegan & Connor, ages 5 and 3, who are the light of our lives. In May of 2008, while John was going through treatment, Finn & Connor's other grandpa, "Papa" Tom Darragh lost his valiant battle with blood cancer, and that loss as well as John's journey is what inspired me to fundraise & participate in my first half marathon in San Francisco in Fall 2008 with John as my biggest supporter. John and I are determined to do all that we can until there is a cure.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
Thank you on behalf of John, Emilie, Dylan, Dione, Diane, Kyle, Meaghan, Natalie, Hank, Josh, Dennis, Bianca, Lori, Kim, Erik, Larry, Kyle, Tom, Stephanie, Shane, Jackson and all of those whose lives have been touched by blood cancers!
We remain ever hopeful for a cure,
BOBBIE HENRY

1/31/11 Today is my first day of training! I have essentially crossed the training start line and look forward to where this journey will take me over the next 4 months!! Everything was covered with ice this AM and as much as I was tempted to crawl back into bed, I remembered what those fighting blood cancers go through, and I was out the front door! 4 miles felt great!!
2/24/11 Because of some health issues, haven't done a lot of training or fundraising in the past 4 weeks, but I'm back and feeling great. Had a wonderful training at Depot Park in Sonoma then our Honoree Potluck at Sonoma Comm. Ctr. afterwards. A great time of catching up with fellow participants, but, most importantly, a time to honore our "Honorees", the people for whom we do this! We were able to hear from some of those who have gone or are going through treatment, and heard from some of our fellow participants about their personal honorees. We are like-minded! We are determined to continue until there is a cure! Thanks for your support, both emotional & financial....you are making a difference!
3/8/11 Back into training again and feeling great! Bess and I had a wonderful 5 mile walk yesterday through beautiful Indian Valley! She is a great companion and keeps me going! Just a little over 6 weeks until my event and am so thankful for all of the encouragement and support of so many friends! I'm getting closer to my goal, but still need some help!
RAFFLE: I've cancelled my raffle for this spring season & will instead start selling raffle tickets in June for a raffle to be held in August while I'm training for Nike Women's Marathon! More info to come!!
3/19/11 7 miles today in rain, hail, wind & cold, but felt terrific afterward! A small but mighty group came out for training today! I'm still $500 short of my goal! Would you consider donating your pocket change today! Even the smallest amount helps!
4/2/11 Beautiful morning @ Cuttings Wharf in Napa! 9 gorgeous miles through the vineyards with some of the most amazing people I've ever met. So dedicated to training & fundraising. We had a mission mile included in our training today with posters, sayings, and pictures of our personal honorees & team honorees! This mile was a time of silence to reflect on the reason that we are doing this and that is to find a cure, to change people's lives & to give them Hope! I'm proud to be part of this team. I've reached $1275 & am just $225 short of my goal. Would you be willing to help me achieve that goal? Even the smallest amount makes a difference.
