RUNNING TOWARDS A CURE

FLAHERTY: (origin: Celtic.) A man of chieftain-like exploits. From flaith, a lord or chief, and oirbheartach, noble-deeded; the man of noble deeds.

Well then I ask you, what can be a more noble deed than doing one’s part to help bring about a cure for cancer?

Welcome to my Team In Training home page!

I'm training to participate in the 2009 Walt Disney World Marathon this coming January as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, especially 2 year old Brandan. Brandan was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia at the age of 11 months. The majority of his second year of life was spent in and out of hospitals, receiving over 100 blood transfusions, breathing with the support of an oscillator machine, battling multiple respiratory arrests and life threatening infections. Thankfully, Brandan is doing so much better these days – because of the medical advances brought about from research funded by donation support. Brandan and all patients like him are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross that ultimate finish line - a cure! My running 26.2 miles is nothing compared to what patients face every single day.

I have a tendency to do things the hard way sometimes and apparently choosing to raise upwards of $4000 in a time when the economy isn’t doing so well is one of those seemingly impossible tasks. This season has been tough but I have not given up hope yet because I know the generosity that is still in your hearts regardless of what your bank accounts say. If you are able to make a donation this season, however big or small, it would help the cause tremendously. Cancer patients do not have the luxury of waiting until the economy takes an upswing to begin treatment; they need our help today and perhaps now more than ever. Having food on your table and being able to afford medical care is something that many of us take for granted, but it is so very critical to someone coping with a blood cancer.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Together we will find a cure: I’ll do the miles and miles of leg work if you can help with a contribution as well as spread the word around in your neck of the woods. On behalf of patient heroes everywhere, I thank you graciously for all your support! GO TEAM!
