I have always winced when I see athletes that stay too long at the dance and don't know when to say when.
Right now I feel a bit like Brett Farve. I wanted to be able to do one more event with Team in Traing, run a marathon in Paris with my daughter Laura. That is my attempt to get back to the super bowl and win a championship. This would be my 19th event with Team in Training. Kelly lived till she was 19. This seemed to be the number for me to stop on.
Brett Farve was so close to making to the big dance and we will never know if his ill timed interception against the Saints changed the course of the game, but Brett never got a chance at redemption in that game, never got back on the field.
Not only did Brett not make it back to the Super Bowl the following year, his ironman streak ended at 297 games.
For me, 18 days away from my Super Bowl, I am not sure if I will even make it to the starting line. Inexplicable and excruciating pain in both of my shins has made it all but impossible for me to run. I have tried taping my shins, tried the Galloway Run/Walk method and nothing has helped. I go to the doctor on Friday to have a MRI or a bone scan to determine the cause of the pain.
If there is anyway I can run, I will pin on my bib and do what I can.
Kelly did not give up, Laiken did not give up. How can I?
And yes it is hard to say goodbye. For some, it is harder.
Exécuter 26.2 miles pour honorer la vie de Kelly and Laiken
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I began running for Kelly in 1999 when she was 10 years old. I completed my first event for Kelly on May 23, 1999 at the San Diego Rock 'N" Roll marathon and I will be completing my 19th event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training at the Paris marathon on April 10, 2011.
Kelly passed away on March 17, 2008 after an almost 12 year battle with her blood cancer. Kelly's life was such a gift to me, a life lived with love, courage, optimism, faith and gratitude. I am honored to run for Kelly.
I am also running in memory of another special person, Laiken Kenwood. While I never had the honor of meeting Laiken while she was living, her life has touched and inspired me to be unstoppable in this fight against cancer.
I'm training to participate in my 19th endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training program for Kelly. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I have set a personal fundraising goal of $5212.00 and I hope you will consider making a
donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
Every dollar counts in the race to find a cure!
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks in advance for your support!

Today was the longest training run so far, for the Paris marathon(10 miles) and it was not run in the best of conditions.
I stayed on the highline canal for the first mile and then ventured off onto the side streets in search of better footing. Enjoyed the scenery of some nice neighborhoods in southeast Denver before encountering some hilly terrain.
I didn't feel much like running this morning and I am sure there were days that Kelly and Laiken didn't much feel like having cancer so I ran.
I ran through ice and snow, I ran up some steep hills, and I wished things were different and I ran on.
The Paris marathon is twelve weeks from tomorrow. I have a long ways to go to get myself ready to run this marathon. Laura and I have almost $9,000 left to raise to fund lifesaving research and offer hope to patients and their families that are fighting this relentless disease.
I will keep running for Kelly and Laiken, run to honor their lives, their memories, their place in my heart.
Please help if you can by donating whatever you can to help accelerate a cure. There is too much at stake.
