Racing to Save Lives

Whew! We are three weeks into training and let me tell you, there are moments when I wonder WHAT was I thinking?! Do I really think I can walk 13.1 miles and live to tell about it? Come on now, I'm almost 34, have three kids, and that isn't grey hair color as my oldest son asked me the other day. I have not been 'in shape' since my shape was pregnant with first kid thirteen years ago! And energy?? What does that word even mean? I see my kids with an over aboundance of it, but I can barely lift my eye lids at 7 am on any given day! WHY on earth would I even consider it? The Answer??

Look at that photo there /\. Yeah that one. See all those people? The guy in pink, that is my co-worker and the associate Doctor at the chiropractors office I've been going to off and on for over 7 years. His name is Dr. Drew Biggs. Then there is the ponytailed girl, that's me. (Hey you're only as old as you look so don't knock the pony tails!) The beautiful young lady, incidently a few months OLDER than me, next to me is my co-worker and office leader Sonia Flores. Now the TALL guy in the back with the fantastic Sea level is for sissies shirt, did I mention I am one of those sissies? That is the good Doctor himself. Dr. Tom Bolan. So you're asking, who are the other people and what does a group photo of your work staff have to do with a Marathon for Leukemia and Lymphoma? Well the other three, they are our team heros. Let me tell you about one in particular as she is not only my team's personal hero, but a special person in the lives of everyone in our office.

She is in the orange shirt. Her name is Allison Bolan, yes, the youngest daughter of the Dr. She is 14 now and was diagnosed with Leukemia at the tender age of 2. After 2 and a half years of chemotherapy and no hair, she got a report from the doctors saying she was in remission. Less than a year later, she returned for a routine blood check and was told the Leukemia was back. Allison was told that this would be her toughest battle yet and that she would need a bone marrow transplant. Remember she is no more than 6 years old! What's the toughest battle YOU'VE ever faced and how old where you when you had to face it? My problems don't compare to that of this little champion.

5 months after the transplant, Allison found out she was in remission again. Her family was told the reason that she survived was due to an experimental drug that had not even been named yet. Part of this drug was funded directly by the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Now, at 14, Allison dances, plays volleyball , loves photography and hanging out with her friends. And she is a Jr. Cheerleader for the Denver Broncos!

Now I ask you, what better reasons could I have to get off my rump and walk off a FEW of my extra pounds? And you can help too. Ok, ok maybe you can't run or walk 13.1 miles beside me, but let me tell you how you CAN help.

1. Prayers and encouragement! I need a lot of all the above! I've never done anything like this at all!!

2. A donation. No matter how big or small, any little bit helps! There would not be miracles like Allison's or any of the other survivor stories with out financial help from those who can't do the foot work!

Remember all donations are 100% Tax Deductable and that there are hundreds of companies that will match your donations!! That's a fantastic and simple way to turn $5 into $10.

Help us keep the miracles going for Allison and all who suffer from Leukemia and Lymphoma by giving in any way you can! You never know who it will save. Someones daughter, mother, brother, sister or father. Maybe even someone close to you.

Thank you!
