THANK YOU for all of the support! We each reached our individual fundraising minimums!! 100% of any further donations will go directly to the cause with no overhead deducted, so please keep contributing!
Welcome to our Latzen Sisters Team In Training home page!
As you probably already know, we are each training to participate in the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco in October as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We are completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, but more specifically in memory of our grandmother, Hannah Latzen, who died of leukemia before Ellen was born and when Amy was 2, and in honor of our friend Kelli who was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Kelli is the epitome of strength in the face of this disease. She and her fiance planted a sustainable, food-producing heirloom garden in their backyard to maintain her good health, and she is even going to run the Denver Marathon herself in October too! Kelli's cheerful spirit brightens up any space she occupies and we are so proud to be running on her behalf.
Since neither of us has ever been a runner before (nor spent much consistent time performing any cardiovascular activity, for that matter!) we are really grateful to Team in Training for the resources they are providing us. Ellen is training with the New York chapter, running multiple days per week in Central Park, and Amy is training with the Rocky Mountain chapter, taking full advantage of all of the beautiful running trails Denver has to offer. We couldn't be more amped about training across the country from one another to then get the chance to meet up together and complete this huge collective goal in one of our favorite cities on the planet; San Francisco.
We can't make it there without your support, though. LLS is doing such amazing things to move forward with life-saving research that will most-certainly effect the lives of people like our friend Kelli. While we know that the state of the economy seems bleak right now, and the thought of making donations may seem daunting, we also know that unfortunately blood cancers are not recession-proof. In fact, patients like Kelli and their families need assistance from LLS now more than ever, so we ask that you please look into your hearts and give generously.
Thank you so much for joining us on this incredible journey! We are thrilled to embark on this mission together, and in honor of Kelli. Knowing we are doing this together with the generous support of friends like you is so fulfilling! We will keep you posted with updates about our training and fundraising progress via email.
Thank you so much for your love and support! Namaste...
Amy and Ellen Latzen
