Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
06/15/08 - I'm starting to feel more confident with my swimming. Coach Nicole has been really great at helping me with my form so that I can almost make a lap without inhaling water. Running seems to be getting easier, although my speed is about the same. I ran for 3 hours on a treadmill at Sam's last weekend and raised $138.56! It was easy to keep going, but once I stopped, my legs felt like jello. I may try that again next month.
05/21/08 - First week of training has gone really well! On Saturday our group ran two 400 meter hills. Whew, that was tough! Coach Mitch video taped us as we crossed the finish line so he could critique our form, so I'm sure he got a good laugh out of my red, sweaty face and pained expression! Last night we ran a timed mile to figure out our pace. I was hoping to do it in 10 minutes, and came so close: 10:09! My goal is to get it down to 9 minutes by the end of the season. Swimming is by far the most challenging aspect. I only did 15 laps on Monday, not even half a mile, and was exhausted!
05/06/08 - I wiped out on my bike this morning while trying to get to work. I've been taking a trail through the city that is mostly paved, but the last 4 miles are dirt with some gravel in certain areas. Well I was going a little too fast on a turn and hit a patch of gravel, and next thing I know I'm flying off my bike and sliding along the ground. Now I feel like a true cyclist though, and I have the battle wounds to prove it!
04/29/08 - I am training to compete in the Nation’s Triathlon this September as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. What have I gotten myself in to? Swimming for .9 miles, biking for 24.8 miles, and running for 6.2 miles, all within four hours! Sounds crazy, right? I’ve always wanted to push myself by completing a triathlon, but this event isn’t just to test myself: I’m racing to find a cure for blood cancers.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. By completing this challenging event, I’m showing my support for all of those battling blood cancers.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to find a cure for blood cancers.
Keep coming back to watch my progress!
Thanks for your support!
