My 5km run~ a victory!

First of all, I wanted to say a big THANK you to family and friends, not only for your donations ( I've raised 56% of my goal) but also for your words of encouragement and positive thoughts.
The month of August was a very frustating one for several reasons:
After a long run on July 21st: 12 miles I was feeling very good.
that following tuesday my left knee began hurting: It would click when I went up and down the stairs, and it would 'grind' when I extended it AND it would lock when I was standing at work! I talked to my coach and he suggested visiting a dr for further advice. That week I managed to run/walk another 20 kilometers but this time at a slower pace 2 hours and 49 minutes.
The follwoing week later I managed to get an appt with the DR. he adviced me not to run that Saturday in case I had a meniscus tear ( the locking of my knee concerned him) so he ordered an MRI.
Another week goes by before I went in for the MRI and the results came back. Another week of no running.
Then I went to Texas to visit my grandpa. His chemo has been increased to a full day and his appetite is so, so. His attitude is still positive though. My family is cherishing every moment we have him with us.
3rd week the results came in: Dr saw something in the MRI that concerned him so I was referred to a specialist. And so another week of no running.
So on my 36th birthday I went to the specialist to learn that I had a benign tumor in my muscle behind my left knee. BUT not to worry! I was told it was of no concern and to come back in a year!! ( I never told my parents..they would freak out) that same day I went back to the DR. and luckily I didn't have a meniscus tear and was ordered to go to physical therapy and get custom orthotics. ( so far I have done neither).
All I had were symptoms of RUNNER'S KNEE, in other words: overuse of my knee.
I debated if I should stop running. I was so far behind in my training. There is no way I can run 26 miles I told myself. YET I had invested long hours, early mornings of lost sleep. I had to at least try right?? So I made the decision together with my coach to slowly get back on track and try for the HALF-marathon.
and so here I am. Today I ran 5km. not my best time. but guess what?? no pain!! I was so happy.
I can do this!
I have started counting the days until the race: 23 days!!
Yes i will be ready for those 13.1 miles on September 22.

I can't believe we are half way thru with our training!!!
Two months ago, I could barely run for 30 minutes without stopping, now running for 60 minutes is not so difficult!
So after my running with no water episode I'm more cautious about my long runs. How silly I was to think I could run in the heat with no H20!! My older sister has been kind enough to surprise me with a way to hydrate myself. ( thanks Sister!!) I now take my water bottle with me when I run longer than 1 hour.
So this week I logged in 391 minutes!! and about 32 miles.
Here is the break down:
SUnday: 1 hours and 55 minutes
MOnday: 55 minutes
Tuesday: recovery day
Wed: 1 hour and 59 minutes
Saturday: 1 hour and 42 minutes.
Yay to a successful 9th week!

Well taking a week off during my vacation in California and Texas was detrimental to my training.
I ran for an hour this tuesday (I wanted to run for 100 minutes) but I couldn't do it!
Wednesday I rested so I could do my long run (120 minutes) on Thursday ( since I'm working saturday I can't attend our group meeting).
Thursday: I started my run after 9am. It was almost 80 degrees and I thought I could do it without a water bottle. Coach told us that we had to hydrate but I ignored his advice. I thought I could do it without a water bottle instead I only took a small package of an energy replacement gel. Big Mistake! After running for one hour I was so thirsty!! and I was in the middle of the trail with no water source nearby. I drank the energy gel but i wanted water. So I walked the rest of the trail back. In total I ran for 60 minutes and walked for 85 minutes. I will never leave the house without water! LOL .

Well, I'm starting the week off good!!!
Sunday: 45 min
Monday 48 minutes: woo-hooo
I'm stretching before and after so no muscle aches!!
Tuesday 30 minutes.
Wednesday. I'm resting today so tomorrow I will do my long run for the week 85 minutes.
Thursday: I did it! ran 90 minutes. I think about 7.5 miles-8 miles.
Just found out the mapped course for those who want to attend and cheer us on!

Friday: I will probably do 30 minutes because on Saturday we are flying to San Diego for vacation!
