Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to Samantha Aguiniga's Team In Training Web Page! I am the one with the sunglasses standing next to our team hero Alex (the little boy up front).
I'm training to participate in the Denver Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
May 15, 2008 Hello everyone I have been training religiously and following my training schedule. I keep my team hero Alex in my mind every step I take. Jaiden my son who is almost seven months keeps me complany in the jogging stroller. I think when I'm done with this event I'm going to be really strong from pushing a fifteen pound baby and a 30 pound or more stroller around the neighborhoods. Uphills are really tough, but I feel reenergized when I remember what I am running for. We'll keep you updated on our progress.
May 20, 2008 We have had our first team training last saturday. We were unable to meet with Alex and his step mother due to Alex having the flu. I guess sickness such as colds, the flu, ect. are going to be common because his immune system is down from the chemo treatments. We hope to reschedule meeting again on the 31st. I sent out my 57 letters and my mother says she just recieved it today. I plan on arranging two or three fundraisers really soon. Training during the week as been a bit difficult these last couple of days de to the heat. Last week I ran a total of 19 miles last week.
May 31, 2008 Training is going really well and I think its because I know I am doing it for a cause other than to make myself get in shape. It means so much more. My longest run so far has been eight miles. I recieved my first donation this last week from Grandma Peck. I will be sending her a thank you note which also acts as a receipt for her taxes. I want to encourage everyone who is keeping posted on my improvement to find it in their hearts to donate to a cause in which science is determinded to cure blood cancers. No matter big or small ever dollar every cent will go towards making a difference in the lives of people who may contract blood cancers.
June 1, 2008 Hello everyone. I have been asking everyone who has stuff that they don't want anymore to donate their items to me for this coming weekend s garage sale. I will also have one on the 12th of July. I am still in the planning process of any other events but I'm sure a car wash will be in July also. Please contact me if there are items you don't want anymore. Also I will be sending out reminder letters soon.
June 7, 2008 We had our garage sale today and raised a little over $200. Not bad for our first fundraiser. It turns out there was an annual 80+ family garage sale also happening today so it didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped, but we still did our best and stuck it out. Plus we're going to have another one in July with more stuff, advertisement, ect. I want to thank Chris Monell, my boyfriends little brother. His enthusiasm about the fundraiser was awesome. He also contributed to making posters, hanging them, helping hand out flyers, and he also was a sign boy for a while and tried to bring in as many people as he could. He totally made fundraising fun and upbeat. This morning we also met with Alex and his mother Connie who ran in the San Diego Team in Training Marathon last week. Alex was a riot. He showed us his tatoos and his muscles. We took some team pictures and talked with Connie. At first I wanted to cry for him and then I realized he was really happy and fine. I have a feeling he's gonna do well with the treatments. He's such a little trooper. We plan on having future get togethers such as BBQ's. Good job to everyone who helped in the fundraiser as well as donated.
July 3, 3008 Wow! Has it been this long since I updated my profile. Training has been good,....rough.....but good. I had my kickoff for my Traveling Potty Fundraiser. I dropped it off at a relatives house. I think she has some retired teacher friends she could send it to next. It's $5 to remove the fancy toilet, $10 to place it in someone else's yard, $15 to find out who wanted it put there, and $20 for potty insurance which is to make sure it never comes back to your yard again. I think it will be a hit. Plus I have a pool tournament scheduled on the 26th of this month. I have the money from the garage sale I still need to send in. I was going to order some supplies at the same time and just haven't got around to it. So in reality we have about $240 raised so far. I'm expecting big plans for this Traveling Potty. Plus it will be fun. We put in her yard at night. It's kinda fun sneaking around. I'll keep you all updated again. Sooner next time though. Plus TJ's friend offered to make me a website for the Traveling Potty. I want to take pictures of everyone who donated to the potty and put it on the website.
July 7 Hey check out the Potty Fundraiser Page http://www.myspace.com/travelingpotty It's been so much fun. We have $50 so far. |
