Racing to Save Lives
Welcome
to my Team In Training home page.
Just letting you all know, I've changed gears and opted to go with just the full marathon in Nashville this Spring. It's easier to manage this way, and there's less money required to raise.
WEEK FIVE/SIX Update:
Still doing quite a bit of running. Ran for 2 hours last Saturday out by the Air Force Academy, and have been running every other day, keeping it between 35 minutes to an hour. I've also been doing quite a bit of hill training out at Ft. Carson, where me and and another officer have been selecting only the finest (Read: steepest) hills for our runs. Yesterday we ran a mile up the road, cut right, and went through some very rough terrain. All fun, though.
WEEK FOUR/FIVE Update:
For those of you that think I took the holidays off, think again! Been doing a lot of long, slow runs during my time off, and ended my holiday leave from the Army by running the PPRR 10k on January 1st, which was largely uphill. Back on the job, now!
WEEK THREE Update:
Week three consisted of some 2 and 3-mile runs, slow pace, as I had my Army Physical Fitness Test on Friday. Scored a 290/300, and completed the 2-mile run in 14:02. Saturday was a timed 5k, and I managed it in 25:30. Cold outside, but I can't let that interrupt my training!
WEEK TWO Update:
Week two has actually been over for a bit, but it was largely shut down due to the blizzardy weather we had here. I managed to get in some mileage on the treadmill, got in some strength training, and Saturday we managed to do our 10x hill repeats out near Austin Bluffs. I managed to keep a sub 2:00 quarter mile up the hill, so I'm pleased with that, considering how steep it was. Week three is shaping up much more nicely, with the weather being better.
WEEK ONE Update:
Went on two 5ks during the long weekend, and then did hill repeats with the team. Monday was a 4 mile run in the morning. Lifted weights and did core training on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, we did a pretty brutal stair routine for an hour. Wasn't able to do my long run on Friday due to the cold and ice, so we did muscle failure exercises indoors. I hit the treadmill later this afternoon and did 5 miles in under 45 mins. Saturday will be hill repeats again at Garden of the Gods. More to follow.
Thank you all for your donations so far. We've started off very strong and it's been tremendously helpful. If you've donated or are unable, please forward this link to your friends.
I'm training to
participate in a two runs as a member of The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In
Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin
lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing a half marathon, followed by a full marathon, in
honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are
the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the
ultimate finish line - a cure!
A little about me. My name is David Ethington, and I've been in the Army since 1999. I joined as a Private First Class and eventually made it to the rank of Staff Sergeant. I served in Germany and Iraq, and trained at Fort Benning, GA, Fort Sill, OK, and Fort Huachuca, AZ. I attended Officer Candidate School in 2008, and earned my commission as a Second Lieutenant. I am currently serving at Fort Carson, Colorado as an intelligence officer. I have over ten years of service to our country, and don't regret a moment of it.
Why I'm doing this. It's simple. As long as there are those who are suffering from a curable disease, we owe it to our fellow human beings to do what we can in order to help them out. Blood cancers are terrible diseases which strike indiscriminately. Even if it only $5, $10, or $20, you are part of the cure. Every little bit helps.
Please make a
donation (even small ones help!) to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance
LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
Special thanks to Grandmaster Doc Fai Wong's Plumblossom Federation (www.plumblossom.net), and the members of Michael Bay's Shoot for the Edit (www.shootforthedit.com) forums for their donations!
