Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
As many of you know, this is not my first event with Team In Training. In 2007, I trained and completed the Denver Half Marathon.
My next goal is to complete a full marathon in May 2011, but to help me accomplish that, I have committed to train for the Canyondlands Half Marathon in March 2011 as a jumping off point. I have, again, chosen to represent Team In Training in this conquest! This way, I will not only receive a mountain of support in my journey, but gain the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for research leading to a cure for Leukemia and other blood related cancers. Some of you may be thinking, "Running outdoors in the winter! In COLORADO!! She must be nuts," but as I see it, I have been blessed with my health and a fun filled life and it’s time to give something back.
**By the way, I have Cabela’s Outdoor Clothing ordering hotline number on speed dial.**
It affects people like Whitney, a young mother who was diagnosed with a very aggressive for of Leukemia, Burkitt’s Leukemia. Without treatment, the leukemia would have been fatal within 3-4 weeks. She underwent eight rounds of intense chemo and 16 lumbar punctures- Ouch!! Amazingly, she went into remission right away. She finished treatment in November 2009.
Whitney, me and Brittany
It also affects people like Brittany. Brittany had AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia) and was diagnosed at the age of 15. The day that she was admitted to the hospital, she was told that 67% of her bone marrow cells were cancerous and that, had it not been detected that day, she would have only lived another 3 weeks. Her survival chances were no more than 5-15%. Brittany will celebrate her 10 year remission anniversary on January 17, 2011.
I'm proud to be doing this half marathon for them, my Honored Teammates. Whitney is also a TNT alumnus who completed the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in June 2010, 7 months after finishing her treatment.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
