We're Training To Beat Cancer

Fundraising is purple and GREEN!
Mar 21, 2013 by Cynthia Tanzi

Hi Everyone! The fundraising continues. Last weekend I did the Virginia Beach 8k and Half Marathon and met some fun people! Can you tell? I wore my TNT coach's shirt to the race but covered up the 'Coach' tag so the local TNT people wouldn't be confused. The Half Marathon was a fundraiser for TNT and there was a great turnout of purple. Said hi to as many as I could and let them know that RI was there.

Thank you to all who donated over the weekend! I almost have enough ribbons to make a skirt but almost isn't quite enough! Don't let me get arrested in our nation's capital for improper attire! Donate $25 and I will wear your name or the name of a loved one on a skirt ribbon. Don't hesitate, donate!

The jewelry making class is Friday, March 22 from 5-7 p.m. If you haven't had a chance to sign up just email me at tanzicakes@cox.net. Cost is $25. Also, mark April 7th from 2-4 on your calendar for the fundraising open house in Cranston.

We will be at Roger William's Park Zoo doing 10 miles this Saturday at 8 a.m. If you go by us make sure to say hi! We love the encouragement. You can also join us for coffee after the training ends (about 10:45 a.m.).

Fundraising Events!
Mar 12, 2013 by Cynthia Tanzi

Hi Everyone! Training is going well and I'm working hard on fundraising. There are also a couple of events coming up that you won't want to miss!

Jewelry artist Cindy Gabriel is teaching a bracelet class on March 22 from 5-7 p.m.

at Rhode Runner in Providence. Email me if you need a registration form (tanzicakes@cox.net). Class cost is $25.00. All proceeds go to Team in Training!!

Yoo hoo!

Also, on April 7th, there will be an open house at 1020 Park Ave Suite 215, Cranston, RI, from 2-4 p.m. Featured will be jewelry by Cindy Gabriel, Stradwell Jewelry, Pampered Chef, and Mary Kay. There will also be raffles. Bring a friend or two. A portion of all sales will be donated to Team In Training! Find great gifts for bridal and baby showers and items for yourself.

Please send this page along to friends and family and let them have a chance to donate to help find a cure! Thank you all!

Training Pictures

We had a cold but dry day to do a 6 mile training walk. Here are some pictures of the teammates who turned out for the walk in the brisk March weather.

The next picture is the team enjoying our half way water stop. And the last picture is the team celebrating a great practice with a hearty breakfast. We are talking with a woman who did a TNT fundraising event a long time ago. We think she will be joining us soon to train and fundraise again! GO TEAM!

Finally a Good Weather Weekend is coming.

Fundraising continues and I hope you are able to make a contribution. Being out of work myself, I understand how tight money can be but any amount you are able to donate helps. While job hunting, I am on a mission to make a difference by helping to find a cure. While not being a medical person or a researcher, I like volunteering to help by raising money to help fund the research to finally find a cure for blood cancers and hopefully all cancers.

Donate $25.00 and I will write your name on a ribbon. All ribbons will be made into a skirt that I will wear for the Nike D.C. Half Marathon. All the donors will then be with me as I complete the D.C. half marathon, also proudly wearing the purple shirt for Team In Training. Thank you so much.

Winter Continues!
Feb 28, 2013 by Cynthia Tanzi

Hi everyone! We were able to train at Roger William's Park today despite a few snow

flurries. Had to cancel last Saturday's training because of the blizzard. Even we weren't crazy enough to try walking in a couple of feet of snow. We will be doing 6 miles next Saturday and I will be racing in the Hyannis Half Marathon on Sunday. Now I just have to get myself out during the week to increase my training time.

Right now I only have a few ribbons to wear on my race skirt for the Nike Women's Challenge Half Marathon in Washington, D.C. on April 28th. Please take a couple of minutes and help find a cure and cloth a walker! I look forward to wearing a skirt with the names of all of you who are helping find a cure for blood cancers.

Thank you to those who have already contributed and to those who will donate.

The Honored Patient
Feb 01, 2013 by Cynthia Tanzi

Last night at the Team In Training kick-off, I had the pleasure of meeting Zach Baccari, the honored patient for this season's training. Also, last season I trained with his mom, grandmother, and aunt as they prepared for the Nike Women's Challenge in San Francisco last October. Here is Zach's story:

Zach was 15 years old, going into his sophomore year at Hendricken High School, when he was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma. This type of non-Hodgkins lymphoma is rare and aggressive; doctors in RI say they normally only see two cases per year.

Zach was in the hospital for 112 consecutive days with many complications. Due to the Burkitts Lymphoma, Zach had to have his spleen and part of his pancreas removed. Luckily he was released from the hospital on December 23, 2011, just in time for Christmas.

Zach was never afraid and had the attitude of "you can't let it control you." After 12 long rounds of chemotherapy, the Baccari family is happy to report that Zach's last day of treatment was on June 6, 2012. Zach is now back in school, enjoying being a teenager again.

I am proudly wearing a wrist band with Zach's name and diagnosis while I am training for my endurance race. When I am tired or just feeling lazy, seeing this wrist band will remind me that I am blessed to be able to help others like Zach. Please support me with a donation so that more kids like Zach have a happy ending. Thank you.

My Mission
Feb 28, 2013

Once again, my team and I are on a mission to help save lives and I need your help. I will spend the next 4 months coaching and training for a half marathon while raising money and awareness for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We are out to find a cure today!

How serious is blood cancer? Every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies. Help me raise money towards cures for blood cancers like leukemia -- the No. 1 disease killer of children.

Anyone making a $25 donation will earn a ribbon on the skirt I plan to wear in my half marathon. On it will be the name of the donor. Donate $100, your name will grace 4 ribbons on the skirt I will be wearing when I represent the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in my race for a cure.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and make sure to check back for weekly updates on the training and the fundraising. Please feel free to send this along to your friends and relatives so everyone can be part of the cure!
