Running through Disney for my Grandma!

THANK YOU!
Jan 02, 2011 by Courtney Buie

As 2010 draws to a close, so does my fundraising for The Walt Disney World Marathon.

With your donations, you helped me raise over

$3,800 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Where will our money go?

Our donations are helping thousands of people through:

Research, Patient and Community Services, Public Health Education, and Professional Education

I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude, and I am thankful to each and every one of you. I know that a lot of the donations were placed in my donation box anonymously – and I want to say THANK YOU!

…NOW WHAT?

I’M GOING TO RUN A MARATHON!

Sometimes I still can’t believe that I’m on my way to Disney to run 26.2 miles through all four theme parks! When I started training in August, I planned to run the half marathon. I never thought I could run a full marathon.

But I was so encouraged by my Team In Training coaches and mentors, that I made the decision to run the marathon in memory of my grandmother who lost her battle to Leukemia in 2001.

Over 325 training miles later, I’m ready!

If you would like to track my run on race day, use this link and enter my name: Courtney Buie

The gun goes off at 5:40am on Sunday, January 9.

Wish me luck!

26 DAYS.
Dec 13, 2010 by Courtney Buie

In 26 days, I will run 26 miles with my Grandma watching over me......I'm counting on her to carry me the other .2

Training for a marathon has been both harder and easier than I ever imagined.

But in 26 days, I will have accomplished so much more than running 26.2 miles.

This will be my 10th Christmas without my Grandma. It certainly won't be the same as having her here, but it will be a very special Christmas knowing that she is going to be with me through the greatest accomplishment of my life.

When I lost my Grandma to Leukemia, I didn't know much about the disease. And to be honest, I didn't want to know. But through Team In Training, I have learned a lot about blood cancer and the amazing work that The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society does with our donations.

It's incredible to think that we can save a life with even a small donation.

I hope that my fundraising will help families spend Christmas after Christmas together.

One day, there will be a cure!

I have 26 days left until I run my very first marathon. But I won't be doing it alone. I'll have my Grandma with me every step of the way. And I'll be encouraged by all the people who have supported my journey with donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Please help me reach my goal of $5,000.

Happy Holidays!

XOXO

Courtney

Training Update
Dec 07, 2010 by Courtney Buie

In less than 5 weeks, I will run The Walt Disney World Marathon with Team in Training!

I first joined the team to raise funds to fight the disease that took my grandmother in 2001. Since August, I have raised over $2,800 and hope to reach my goal of $5,000 by January 1.

I can't say enough thanks to my friends and family who have donated so far, and everyone who is supporting me on this journey.

Last weekend, I ran the Palm Beach Half Marathon and was lucky enough to meet up with the team and coaches, even though this was not my TNT event. Coach Michelle ran the entire race with me, and helped me take 20 minutes off my half marathon time. We finished in 2:06:44!

We continue to increase our mileage each week, and every step reminds me how lucky I am to have my health. I feel blessed to use my passion for running to help other people through Team In Training.

Total Training Miles to date - 242.75

Please consider donating to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help save lives!

8 more weeks!
Nov 16, 2010 by Courtney Buie

Oh wow, it's getting close.

In 8 weeks, I'll be running my first marathon - The Walt Disney World Marathon - January 9, 2011.

Because I lost my grandmother to Leukemia in 2001, I am raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society so I can help provide hope to patients and their families who have been affected by blood cancers.

I've made some amazing friends so far - a couple of which dressed up in the Halloween spirit for our group run that weekend!

And I'm running distances I never thought would feel this "easy," thanks to some awesome coaches. Here's a pic of me with a coach, Michelle, finishing up a 12 miler.

(I am running, even though it doesn't look like it!)

Our mileage is increasing and I logged a 12.9 mile run this weekend, then another 11 mile run today. I love seeing my progress and am so looking forward to January 9!

Total Training Miles to Date - 192.11

My hope is that our fundraising efforts will provide treatments to leukemia patients, and help them to enjoy things like running again.

Please make a donation and help us save lives!

Oct 23, 2010 - 11 more weeks!
Oct 23, 2010 by Courtney Buie

I can't believe that I'm only 11 weeks away from running my first marathon - Walt Disney World Marathon on January 9, 2011

I am completing this event in memory of my grandma, Naomi Jeanne Littlejohn, who lost her battle to leukemia in June of 2001. And I'm raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help other people whose lives have been changed by a blood cancer diagnosis.

This weekend, instead of our group training run, we had a Mock Event. We ran up A1A along the beach to a beatiful sunrise. It was a fun event with race bibs, water stops, and finisher medals.

It was a good training week for me too!

Tuesday - 2.47 miles - 26:25

Thursday - 6.75 miles - 1:07:32

Saturday - 8.75 miles - 1:35:06

Total Training Miles - 128.61

I would be so grateful if you could make a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Thank you for your support!
