Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I am completing this event in honor of my mother, Nola Boyd, who has been fighting leukemia for the past three years and who was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. As many of you know, I spent several weeks at her bedside this past July. Her leukemia transitioned into lymphoma, but it took the doctors several months to realize this. By the time they figured it out, she was nearly in a coma in the hospital and considered too weak to even receive treatment. The doctors estimated she had perhaps three months to live if we decided to let the lymphoma take its course...and if we wanted to try chemo it would probably kill her within days.
It was at that point that our family rallied around her and convinced the doctors to administer a weaker dose of chemotherapy. We figured she wanted to go out fighting.
Here we are...it is now November as I am writing this and over the course of four months there has been a total turnaround. Although Nola is not in remission, she is feeling fantastic and has (for the most part) resumed her normal activities. She will finish her current chemotherapy treatments in a few weeks. We are so thankful that the treatments have advanced to point where a miracle like this can occur. With continued support of organizations like LLS, we pray that everyone can have an outcome like Nola's. Doing this marathon is my way of not only saying thanks to God and LLS for her amazing improvement, but to continue the fight until my mother and all other leukemia/lymphoma sufferers cross the ultimate finish line with me----to a cure! These people are the real heroes.
But we need your support to make this happen. Although my physical training is progressing well (I ran 13.2 miles last Saturday), I still nearly $1,000 short of my fund-raising minimum to participate in the January 11 DisneyWorld Marathon. Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
You can mail a check payable to "The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society" and mail it to me at my home address: 1860 Tom-a-toe Rd, Boynton Beach, Fl 33426. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call me at (561) 901-2049 or email me at : tvlamb@hotmail.com. I will turn in the checks and cash I receive with the required TNT forms to make sure your donation is applied to my fundraising account. I need to receive your donation by December 14, 2008 to insure that TNT receives all donations before the marathon deadline. It is fastest and easiest to donate online at: http://pages.teamintraining.org/pb/wdw09/tlamb.
If you are able, please forward this to all your friends and visit my website frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support and prayers!
