Welcome to my Shelly's Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training.I am training to run the Disney half (13.1) mile Marathon in January 2009. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I will be completing this event in honor of a special friend of our family, Joanne Kurland, who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in February 2008. She is a wonderful caring person who if fighting for her life. Go visit her here: www.leighandjoanne.blogspot.com to see how she's doing.

8.23.2008 - Was our first offical team run - and we did great. It was nice to meet new people and our new coach we had a 30 min. run and it was awesome.
8.25.2008 - Tonight I ran with 2 other teammates. They both have already completed a marathon so it was a bit imtimidating at first but I got over it and the run was great. We ran the Roosevelt Bridge and boy what a work out, I can't wait to do it again!
8.27.2008 - Tiffany and I ran the bridge tonight. We did 2-1 ratio training, which is run 2 minutes and then walk 1 minute then do it again and again for 30 minutes. It was 4:30 and HOT when we ran but we both did great.
8.30.2008 - This morning was a team run. We ran for 35 mins. Running with the team is such a great way to keep motivated. Our coach is really great too he talks with you and answers any questions for you. After the run we went to breakfast which is a great way to end the run and also to get to know your team mates a little better.
9.2.2008 - Took off for Labor Day so tonight it was really hard to get motivated. But I still did the 38 mins. of ratio running (4 to 1). I always feel so good after I am done and back home :) But I have to get in three days of training this week so it will be a tough week wish me luck.
9.3.2008 - Tonight was very interesting to say the least, I put Noel in the jogging stroller and we headed out. Well it was harder then just running, pushing it was a pain in the you know what, but it was so funny because everytime I stopped running , to walk a bit, she would yell at me "again" she only wanted me to be running! So to make her happy I was a running fool and very out of breath and tired and I really couldn't wait to get home. I don't think I will be taking my cute but mean rider along with me too much. Thanks Noey for a very interesting run!
9.4.2008 - Tonight was a team (extra miles) run. We ran a 4 to 1 ratio and ran for 33 mins. It was a good run that took us over the big bridge and then over a flatter one. I was so tired but struggled thru it for Jonnne. I wear the wrist band with her name on it and when I think I have had enough I look at it and keep going because I AM SAVING LIVES ONE MILE AT A TIME!
9.6.2008 - This morning was a team run, it is always so great to run with the team. You can see how well everyone is doing and the friendships I am buiIding are great. I think today was my personal best - we ran for 38 mins! No stopping me now, here I come!
9.8.2008 - Tonight was another team run, we ran 3.5 miles.
9.11.2008 - Another team run tonight. We ran at 6:00 pm and we ran a 2 to 1 ratio and ran for 45 mins. It's so funny becasue when I first started running I could hardly make it the 2 minutes and now it's a piece of cake. I like to do the ratio training durning the week and then on Sat. it's all or nothing.
9.13.2008 - Team run this morning. I ran with Tiffany and we ran for 45 minutes (4 miles) without stopping!! We ran the whole time and it was great. She and I try to run together because we usually run the same speed and can talk, which makes the run go faster. After the run this morning the team went to breakfast together.
9.15.2008 - We had a team run tonight at 6:00 pm, hot out again. Ran 3.52 miles and burned 401 calories...yeah.
9.17.2008 - Extra miles run tonight. I was so tired and really didn't want to go but I did. I am trying to work on getting faster. We ran for 32 minutes tonight. I was happy I went but so glad when it was over.
9.19.2008 - Went with Tiffany at 4:15 am - yeah you read that right. It's early but we had a good run, 3 miles in 37 minutes. We are getting so much better, we don't stop anymore we just keep running and running. Team run tomorrow morning....
9.20.2008 - Team run this morning was GREAT!!! I ran 4.93 miles in 56 minutes, which is an 11.24 pace. That is great! Tiffany and I even sprinted the last little bit. The whole team did a great job and everyone was saying that that was their best run.
9.22.2008 - The run tonight was not very good. I am not sure if I was to stressed out or what but I was having a really hard time. We did run 3.43 miles and burned 467 calories. I guess it's still better then not doing it. I hate when I have a bad run, I know some days are better then others. I do so much better with the morning runs, I have less on my mind and have not already worked a full day. Can't wait till this Saturday's run - we will be running for over an hour!
9.25.2008 - Got up a 4:00am and went running with Tiffany again, I really like the am runs and it was nice and cool this morning. We ran 2.77 miles non stop.
9.26.2008 - Another 4:00 am run today. We ran for 42 mins. which was 3.56 miles. Team run tomorrow - I hope I kick some butt!!
9.27.2008 - Team run this morning was awesome...I ran (with Tiffany) for 1 hour and 2 mins. for a total of 5.11 miles, which put us on a 11.48 pace. We did GREAT!!! Can you believe that we ran for over an hour non stop???
9.30.2008 - Ran this morning for a total of 3.52 miles.
10.1.2008 - Ran again this morning 2.72 miles burned 359 calories. Not a long run but a good one. Next run is a team run Thursday night and should be a pretty good one. Then the big team run on Sat. which I look forward to all week, thats the day I really push myself.
10.2.2008 - Extra miles team run tonight. I ran 3.37 miles at an 11.15 pace and burned 444 calories. So I went home and had a glass of wine!
10.3.2008 - Saturday morning team run I ran 6.55 miles in 1 hour and 13 mins. thats a pace of 11.15 at which I burned 864 calories. How awesome is that? I still can't believe how far and how long we are now running (non stop). After the run I had so much energy and felt so good.
10.8.2008 - I 've been slacking a bit this wek but plan to pick it up again...I ran this morning and was so tired, we ran 2.25 miles. It was a small one but it still got me out there. Tonight is a team run so I am hoping I'll do better. I am sad that I will miss the Sat. morning team run (which I kick butt on) but we will be camping. I am going to take my running shoes and try to get out and just do it!!
10.9.2008 - Ran tonight 3.11 miles in 37 mins. and burned 411 callories. After my run I went home to start packing for camping and dropped a bottle on my toe and broke it! So I am taking a week off (coach told me too) to rest it and hopefully it will be better so I can run later in the week and this weekend. I miss it and want to get back out there!
10.16.2008 - My first run since I broke my toe and ouch! But I ran 3.69 miles with an 11.06 pace and burned 487 calories so not bad. It sure felt good to get out there and run again. So we will now have to see how good I can do Sat. at our team run....
10.18.2008 - I ran with the team this morning, I ran 8.7 miles in 1 hour and 38 minutes. It was good. My toe was a bit sore afterwards but it was good.
10.19.2008 - Today I ran the Nike Womans Half a Marathon with Penny and Tiffany. We ran 13.1 (half marathon)! It was awesome. It took us 2 hours and 43 minutes to run it. Boy it was long but now I really know what to expect at the Palm Beach and Disney Marathons. I know with more training I will do even better. So now its a couple days of rest and back to training!
10.21.2008 - Tonight I headed out with Noel in the stroller to run...and man is it hard to run and push the stroller. We went about 3 miles and it started to rain a little so I took her home and went back out alone for a bit. I ran 2 1/2 miles. My toe is really hurting again and my legs felt really sore, I must be getting old or the long run on Sunday really did me in. I am going to rest the next couple of days and get ready for Sat. long team run.
10.25.2008 - Team run this morning was good. I ran 9.91 miles and burned 1307 calories. My toe is still really sore and for some reason my left leg was cramping up. But I still made it and after ward I felt old and sore! As the runs get longer and longer my body feels it more and more! But let me tell you how pretty it is to be running and watch the sun rise ~ it is such a great way to start your day!
10.27.2008 - Extra miles run with the team tonight, I ran 4.25 miles. We are really working on getting faster too. The weather has been so great and it is starting to get dark when we run which makes it so much nicer and cooler to run. Toe is doing better - thank God!
10.30.2008 - Went out running with the kids tonight. kyle and Luke rode their bikes and Noel and I jogged with them. We went 4.2 miles. It was really great to get the kids out of the house for some fresh air. We had some music on and were singing along! The time went to fast because I was laughing and talking with them the whole time. What a great run and the weather was amazing.
11.1.2008 - Saturday team run was ugly! It was raining and it never stopped the whole 2 hours we had to run. I did really good but only because I was so cold and wet I just ran my little heart out. I ran 11.07 miles in 2 hours. My pace was great because I was trying to run so fast so I could get home and get a hot shower! I hate running in the rain but like the coach said the race will go on even in the rain so we have to get used to it, we worked to hard to just back out because of the rain!
11.3.2008 - Extra miles team run tonight - we ran 4.01 miles with a pace of 10.50 boy the time change is really wierd. It was dark at 6 pm when we started running.
11.5.2008 - Went out running last night with the boys in tow (they had thier bikes). I only got to run 3.2 miles and it was dark and the kids wanted to go home. At least I ran thats how I see it! Did all my paper work and got our tickets for Disney...it is so real now and I can't wait! Wish you all could come along.
11.06.2008 - Last night was extra miles night and the coach and I were the only ones that showed up. Well he is a much better and faster runner then me so I was a little nervous to have to run with him but we set out and did 4.17 miles. I worked really hard on keeping my pace up the whole time and did! I ran with a pace of 10.00. That is really good that I could run the whole time and at faster pace then I was used to. I hope I didn't slow him down to much. We even ran up the big bridge so it was a great over all work out!
11.08.2008 - Team run this morning. I ran a little over 12 miles! can you believe it? I still can't. The weather was really nice. We ran 2 hours and 20 mins. We only have a couple more weeks until the Palm Beach Marathon, I will be running the 13.1 and am so excited!
11.10.2008 - Ran 2.77 miles, I think I might have pulled a muscle in my leg.
11.13.2008 - Ran 3.66 miles and my leg hurt the whole time, so i am giving it a break for a couple of days then back to it!
11.22.2008 - Today was our Team car wash and it was so fun. We washed so many cars and made some money too. It was a awesome day! As some of you know I pulled a muscle in my leg but it is doing so much better I am going to be back out running this week. I have been trying to rest it because we have The Marathon of the Palm Beaches in two weeks and I need to be ready for that.
12.07.2008 - I ran the Marathon of the Plam Beaches! 13.1 miles with a very hurting leg but I did it! It was the coolest thing ever. I am so excited about Disney and I am going to work even harder now.
01/06/2009 - Well the time has come the money has been raised and I am so excited! Friday we leave for Disney, the event I have been training for! I can't wait! Yes my leg still hurts but when I think about all those people out there going through so much more then me just running with a hurt leg I know I can do it!
