My name is Trina Thillberg. I am 29 years old and until about 6 months ago, thought I had a pretty good perspective on life. But on Thanksgiving Day, my 17-year-old brother, Cody, gave me a new perspective. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphomatic Leukemia (ALL). Because it is so common among children and teenagers, the doctors say, “It is the best kind of cancer to have,” but after weekly trips to the hospital, endless chemo treatments, and days that the thought of food or getting out of bed is just plain unbearable, one has to wonder.
I have wanted to run a marathon for a long time and now I have a reason to do it. On behalf of our brother, my sister, Megan, and I have joined Team in Training, a program run by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I have made a commitment to train for five months, complete the October 2008 Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco, California, and raise $4,000.00 for LLS. After seeing firsthand the struggles that my brother and all cancer patients face head on with no training or preparation, it has inspired me to test the limits of my endurance. It is their endurance and strength that is my motivation to complete this race.
With Cody in mind, I am asking that you give to LLS where at least 75% will be spent on medical research and patient services. I gratefully welcome donations of any size and appreciate your faith and confidence that together we can make a difference in finding a cure.
