Welcome to Lynn Smythe's Team In Training fundraising page. I am racing to save lifes, one mile at a time.
After 5 years of participating in century bike rides with our local Team in Training chapter, my husband Rob and I recently participated in our first triathlon with the Palm Beach Florida Team in Training chapter. We competed in the St. Anthony's Olympic distance triathlon which took place on May 1st in St. Petersburg, Florida. I just wrote a race report for that event which I posted to my Bike Diva blog: 2011 St. Anthony's Triathlon Report.
For the fall 2011 season of Team in Training I will be participating in the Nation's Triathlon. Nation's is an Olympic distance event which takes place on September 11 in Washington, D.C. An Olympic distance triathlon consists of the following distances:
1.5 kilometer swim = .93 mile = 1640 yards
40 kilometer bike = 24.8 miles
10 kilometer run = 6.2 miles
While I'm training for Nation's, Rob will be coaching the team that will be training for El Tour de Tucson. El Tour is a 109 mile road bike ride which takes place in Tucson, Arizona in November.
CANCER EFFECTS EVERYONE
Rob has been going through his own battle to fight cancer. In September of 2009, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He had surgery in October, followed by 6 weeks of immunatherapy starting in December. In October of 2010, he went to his urologist for a routine check up, and was hoping to be diagnosed as one year cancer free. Unfortunately the cancer was back and he had to undergo a second surgery on December 15, 2010.
Rob began what we thought was going to be one years worth of immunatherapy and interferon treatments starting the end of January. Around the beginning of April he was given the all clear! His cancer is currently in remission and instead of having to continue with a year's worth of treatments, he is now looking at a few maintenance treatments for the remainder of the year. We both enjoy being part of the Team in Training program and staying active, even while we are going through our own personal crisis, is the key to keeping a positive outlook on life. GO TEAM!
PLEASE DONATE TO TEAM IN TRAINING
We are training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. We am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support our participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Thank you for your support.
