Charis Fights Back

Feb 10, 2013

Yesterday was our second day that we trained as a team. We made it five miles! It was a beautiful, sunshiny morning. We had the wind at our backs during the first half and then had to push through it on our way back. But we did it one step at a time!!! My ankle bothered me quite a bit even with a brace on, but after i soaked it in a bucket of ice water for about five minutes, I was fine.

Every week before we set out we have what we call a "mission moment". This is when one of our teammates comes up and shares why they have become a part of Team in Training. Yesterday one of our mentors shared about a friend of hers who just lost his battle with leukemia this past week. It was heart breaking to hear. So many of our teammates have lost friends and family to leukemia and lymphoma or other types of cancer. We all have stories to tell and reasons for why we are doing what we are doing. Some of our teammates actually are survivors of leukemia and lymphoma. It is inspiring to see them come out and run with us each week.

Please share your stories! I would love to read them.

Hi Everyone!

Last Saturday we had our first team training session. We ran four miles along the greenblet in Boise. Conditions were not ideal; there was still a lot of ice on the ground, especially in areas you might not expect. We all had to be extra careful not to fall and get hurt. Each of us made it back safely as our team mates cheered us on.

For me personally, it was a little dificult. My left ankle did great during the first two miles, but on the way back I struggled. My ankle began to hurt and I decided to take things a little slower. I know this is going to be difficult, but I think this is worth it. :D

Thanks for all of your support!

Teams are made up of individuals. Without them, there is no team.

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

Please make a donation in support of my efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures.
