Welcome to my Team In Training home page!
My husband (Mike) and I began our journey with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team in Training program in January of 2007. In that summer, we completed our very first triathlon, and raised $7000 to go to LLS and all that they do. We had been through a rough few years, losing several family members and close friends to various cancers, and I came to the point that I HAD to do something. You couldn't even mention the "C" word without me getting tears in my eys. We didn't stop there. The next year we mentored for the team, while pregnant with my daughter, raised more money, and completed the triathlon. From there we began coaching the triathlon team, and still finding the time somwhere in the year to do fundraising for LLS, raising no less than $2200 each year.
And now its time again. . .. this year I feel a little crazy! I plan to complete the Eugene Women's Half Marathon on September 4th with Team in Training and then complete a Century Ride (yes, 100 miles on a bicycle) on September 25th. With completing the Century Ride, this will earn me my "Triple Crown" with Team in Training, which means I have fundraised for, and completed a Triathlon, a half marathon, and a century ride with TNT. What does that really mean? All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
- I have sacrificed my body to train and complete several endurance events.
- I have coached (and am currently coaching) others to train and complete Olympic distance Triathlons in honor of cancer patients
- I have achieved high fundraising goals to make a difference in the lives of many families who need support
-I have grumbled early on Saturday mornings when I didn't want to get out of bed, but remembered that my tiredness and aches and pains are minimal to that of what a cancer patient endures. And that is what keeps me going! The real Heroes are those who are battling many different kinds of cancers and those who have lost their battles. We need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - A CURE!
