Racing to Save Lives
Hi! I want to tell you a little about Team in Training, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and my honored teammate, Ramsey.
I'm training to run the Walt Disney World Half Marathon in January, 2010, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. Team In Training raises funds to help research and find cures for blood-related cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins lymphoma and myeloma.
I am completing this event in
honor of Ramsey, a not-quite-3 year old boy living with his two older siblings and family in Portland. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Lymphoma (ALL) in February 2009, at just 2 and a half years of age. Luckily he has responed well to his treatment, and it now in a maintence phase, which will last until Kindergarten.
Ramsey is lucky, or as "lucky" as you can be and still have cancer. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society are a huge reason why Ramsey's survival chances are so high. In 1960 the survival rate for children with the most common form of Leukemia was just 4%.
Today the 5 year survival rate for children under 5 is 91.2%.
In the past 20 years, more than 390,000 participants have raised over $950 million for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and LLS is
hoping to cross the BILLION dollar mark for fundraising this year! YOUR donation will help them achieve that goal.
Please give generously to help this wonderful cause. Your donations are 100% tax deductible, and almost 75% of each dollar donated goes directly to fund the society's mission.
Be sure to check back often for updates on my trainig and fundraising.
Thank you in advance for your support!
