Racing to Save Lives Welcome to Debbi's Team In Training home page. I'm training to participate in The Race for the Roses Half Marathon on April 11, 2010, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training (TNT) are raising funds to help stop blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. In fact a large portion of donations to LLS contributed to research right here in Oregon in the form of a grant to OHSU's Dr. Brian Druker who developed Gleevac, a breakthrough chemo drug having phenomenal results. I am completing this event in honor of my mother, who died of cancer in 1971, our "Honored Teammates," and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. And please share this site with anyone you know who has a heart for curing cancer. I hope you will visit my web site often. My little blog for pictures is available at: http://debbi-creatingmiracles.blogspot.com/ Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress, I'll be posting updates (below). Thanks for your support! 3/11/10 This has been an awsome week physically, yet a tough week emotionally. GREAT improvement in my pace thanks to adjusting one of my migraine medication allowing better cadio support (it's great to COMMUNICATE with your doctor). But 3 (three!!) heartwrenching losses due to cancer in just 24 HOURS! Our team lost one of our honored teammates, little 4 year old Hunter who is pictured here. And within 12 hours of receiving news of Hunter, I learned of 2 others who lost their lives to cancer. So I have a great "high" and yet I feel guilty for feeling so great because of the terrible tragedy of the loss of these wonderful people! One minute I'm flying high & the next my chest tightens up & my eyes fill. I certainly have reinforcement to keep on working toward my goal: being part of the team to eliminate cancer from our world! 2/23/10 Rest day today & I'm so glad! Did the 6-mile group walk on Saturday, had K9 SAR training Sunday, a 3-mile walk in Forest Park yesterday w/ a friend & our dogs. Today for my "rest dayK" I ran errands all afternoon. I think that's more tiring than going for a walk! Group training at the track tomorrow evening where we'll work on pace/speed improvements. 2/18/10 Added some photos w/ small notations on the blog where I have ability to add multiple pictures. 2/15/10 No photos yet, sorry but it's i the works, I promise (several taken by others &I have to mooch). Approximately 1 month into training, the time has FLOWN by! I did a "cross training" day yesterday & used the time after work to do some core strength exercises. Some of those "little" hidden muscles are talking to me this afternoon, reminding me they are there! Umph! Squats and crucnches on the Bosu (balance) ball, plus some "regular" squats w/ pulses. Old problem with my lleft foot has been giving me a little trouble but bought new insoles & seems to have cleared up (fingers crossed). |
