Racing to Save Lives - Pacific Crest Triathlon!
Welcome to my Team In Training fundraising webpage!
In honor of my 10 year diagnosis anniversary with Hodgkin's Lymphoma - that's right, May 18, 2009 will be 10 years since I was diagnosed as a high school sophomore with Hodgkin's - I will be training for the Pacific Crest Olympic Triathlon in Sunriver, Oregon on June 28, 2009. Which means I will be taking on a 0.9 mile swim, 28 miles bike ride and 6.2 mile run.
I will be participating as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
Finding a cure for blood related cancers and helping fund research for these cures are what is going to keep me swimming, biking and running these next few months!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Your support through donations helps to make all the difference for blood cancer patients to become survivors like myself.
I hope you will visit my web site often to see my progress and I'll be sure to send out progress reports - this is going to be an exciting adventure and I can't think of a better way to celebrate my 10 year diagnosis anniversary.
*May 27th UPDATE:
Well I have now survived brick workouts of 20+ mile bike rides followed by 4 mile runs AND open water swims in scenic Vancouver Lake! Training is coming along nicely and it's only about 1 month until Race Day in Sunriver. I also celebrated my 10 year Cancerversary with my first Open Water Swim - a scary thing when you are used to being able to see everything when you swim and then BAM nothing.
**June 1st UPDATE:
I completed my first sprint triathlon this past weekend at Vancouver Lake - I am officially a triathlete! While this was half the distance of the Pacific Crest race I am gearing up for at the end of THIS MONTH (yikes!) it was good to know in some seriously warm weather I can manage to not panic or drown in the 1/2 mile swim, power through 12 miles on the bike and then complete a 3 mile run.
Thank you to all of the people who have donated already - your support means the world to me and I can't wait to send you more updates both pre and post race!
Thanks for your support! ==Julie
****Here is an awesome photo of me post falling off my bike while attempting to come to a stop in the rain on Sauvie's Island (yes, I am that graceful) and changing out my tire tube - not because it was flat but because it's an important skill to learn. GO TEAM!
