Well, it's official....I'm not going to be able to train until our first practice of 2011. Well, actually, I'll be able to start again on Dec 28th, but I won't see the group until after the holidays. I'm having my hernia fixed next Tuesday, Dec 14th. I'm in and out of the hospital the same day and will be back at work less than a week later. I shouldn't miss any of the team meetings, I just cant train. I'm still going for a PR at Wildflower though. It's good that we're in our base training now so I'm not set back too far.
We all have setbacks. I've hit my first for this triathlon season. I found out last week that I have a Ventral Hernia (a hole in my abdominal wall just above my naval). I go next week for surgery. So, I'm going to be out of comission for a few weeks until I'm healed. In the mean time, I'm still fundraising and supporting my teammates at practice.
Our training is in full swing now with scheduled workouts every day and coached workouts on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. Lately it's been cold here! Saturday was pouring rain and in the 50's. Last night at the pool it was in the 40's. I guess that makes it so that we don't want to get out of the pool!
The fundraising is going well. As you can see on the right, I am almost a third of the way to my goal!
I'm off to spend over an hour on the bike trainer!
For those of you who have donated to this amazing cause, thank you so much. You are helping to fund treatment for those who cannot afford it and research to stop cancer in it's tracks.
For those that haven't, GET IN THE GAME! Don't just sit on the side lines and watch this opportunity to help pass you by. While my event isn't until April, the clock is ticking on donations. So, donate today and feel great in knowing you've supported the fight against blood cancer.
We have a great group of people on the Triathlon Team this season. We are at almost 60 people on the team, split between 3 different triathlons. Many of the athletes are doing the local "Super Seal" olympic distance triathlon in San Diego, the others are doing "Lavaman" which is an olympic distace tri in Kona, HI. Then there are the 7 of us who are tackling the half-ironman distance "Wildflower Long Course." Obviously we are the craziest of the group.
GO TEAM!
Our first practice is coming up and I can't wait. The team is an interesting mix of people from first timers to vetrans of many triathlons. We have people that can't swim yet and those that fly in the water. Saturday is the day...I can't wait.
