Walking to Save Lives
As many of you who know me are aware, my father is an NHL (Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma) cancer survivor. Thankfully, he has been free of cancer for just over 20 years.
I still have very vivid memories of the pain and struggles he went through during his treatment. I remember all the times he was in and out of the hospital, most of which were as a result of the chemo side effects and not from the actual cancer.
In addition to never wanting him to have to go through that again, I hope for the day when no one has to go through it. Because of that, I'm training for the Rock 'n Roll San Diego Half Marathon as part of Team Shrinking Jeans with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training.
I am participating in this event not only in my Dad's honor, but also in memory of three women in my life that lost their own battles with breast cancer. While LLS raises money specifically for blood cancers, I believe that research for any cancer helps in the battle against ALL types of cancer.
I'm also doing this in honor of all the people who are currently battling cancer. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
All of us on Team Shrinking Jeans are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Please make a generous donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. Even if you can't make a generous donation, every little bit helps and no amount is too small.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society receives no government funding, and 75% of all donations go directly to programs & research to help find a cure for blood cancers. This money is used for research grants, patient education, and patient services for things like providing transportation money to patients to get them to and from their chemotherapy appointments.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
I'm walking in honor of:
My dad (NHL survivor)
Georgia Long (battling CLL for the past four years)
Honored Hero teammate Sammi (ALL survivor)
I'm walking in memory of:
