Running to honor my sister
Welcome
to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to
participate in the San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon as a member of The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In
Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin
lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in
honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are
the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the
ultimate finish line - a cure!
In December my sister Melissa was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, that was a very scary and stressful time for our family. Things since have calmed down a little bit. Melissa has gotten into her treatment routine (chemotherapy every other week), and seems to be in good spirits. Her positive attitude though this ordeal is remarkable.
It's not an easy thing seeing someone you love fighting cancer. I felt like there was no real way of helping her, except always being there to support her in anyway I can. Then I got the idea to join this great Team In Training, I can raise money to help fight these damn cancers!
Training has been going great, I just ran eight miles this morning, and for some reason I am looking forward to going further next week. The motivation I get from my sister and the team will fuel me all the way to finishing my first marathon!
Thank you for your support, and anything you can donate will be very appreciated.
May 27 - The final countdown to the marathon has begun. With just over a week until the event, I have been tapering down my workouts so I can be well rested and injury free for the race. I finished an exhausting, full-body aching 20 mile run, which was my biggest test before the full 26.2 mile marathon. After all the soreness, hurting knees, and early Saturday morning team runs, I can't wait to cross the finish line and be done with it. I feel like my goal of under four hours is within reach!
Melissa has just fininshed her last (hopefully) chemo treatment on Monday. She will now get a couple of weeks off with no treatments. This time off will be really good for her, because she will start her radiation treatment soon. The radiation treatment sounds pretty intense. She will get radiation five days a week for at least four weeks. So while my marathon training is just about complete, she still has a long fight to go. She still amazingly maintains her positive attitude through all of this. Whenever I talk to her she seems more concerned with me than herself, God Bless Her!
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and please keep them coming!
Please make a
donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance
LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often.
Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your
support!
