Half way Update!
The training continues.....
Well, being as out of shape as I am in (ever since grad school, working out consisted of pacing back and forth before a big exam).... I am surprisingly surviving the training.... and we are already at the half way mark. Only 3 more months until the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco!!!!
8 MILES?!!!
Last week we just completed 8 miles... and this week we start Saturday training runs at 6:30 am! Wait a minute.... that means I need to wake up earlier than I do when I trek to work every day!! And let me tell you... it is not easy rolling out of bed so early on a "sleep in" day when Tai is snoring away, oblivious to me even getting up out of bed! But this is such a minor thing when you think about what a kid has to go through when they have Leukemia (all the tests, sleepless nights in the hospital, loss of their normal routines...). It's all for an amazing cause...it's all for the Leukemia & Lymphma Society!
As I train for this half-marathon, I'm still commited to the more important part of this program....which is the fundraising. I've already raised over $2000 and would like to raise at least $3000 with your help. Thanks so much to all who have donated and who have faith in me that I will actually cross that finish line. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers...but more specifically those kids with leukemia that I work with at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
For those of you who have donated or have offered words of encouragement and support, MAHALO!!!!! It is greatly appreciated!!!!! If you haven't donated yet and would like to, it's never to late! Remember too that any donation is tax deductible (Tax ID #13-5644916). I'm also selling Team in Training cookbooks for $15 each if you'd like to show your support and get some great recipes at the same time. AND, I will be having a garage sale within a couple weeks so if you have any items to donate, then let me know and I can come pick them up!
Also, if you would like to donate but do not want to do it online, you can donate by a check made out to The Leukemia & Lympoma society and mail them to me at: 15740 Dimity Ave. Chino Hills, CA 91709.
THANKS for all your support!!! And for helping this great cause..... Just think, 20 years ago, there was no effective treatment for leukemia and other blood cancers. Today 80% of children diagnosed wtih the most common form of leukemia will be cured!
