Racing to Save Lives Welcome to my Team In Training page. So why, as a busy wife & mother of three beautiful blessings, am I training for my first ever half marathon? Let me share some of the paths our Father has taken me down... Easter morning, March 1986. I'm only 11 years old but I have wisdom far greater then my young age. Today isn't going to be a "normal" Easter Sunday for my family. I reluctantly left my Daddy's hospital room to get dressed for the day. A few short minutes later my Aunt comes to find me and tells me that my Daddy has gone. Gone where? Down the hall, to work, on vacation? No, he's gone to heaven. I'm only 11 years old but I already know that this is not something I want any other child to have to deal with and I know that some day I will do something to help that! Late January 2001. It's been 9 months since Marcel & I said; "I do" to spending the rest of our lives together. Here we sit, speaking with the Hospice coordinator, our Oncologist, and a nurse. Everything has been done to stop the tumor from growing, but now Marcel has a blood infection, there is simply nothing more any doctor can do. It's up to our Physician to heal Marcel according to His will. Not two weeks after setting up a hospital in our small home, Marcel is no longer in pain. Our Father has decided that Marcel has served the purpose he was put on this earth for. Praise the Lord; Marcel has been healed, but certainly not according to this world's hopes. Why did I need to share this with you? Talking about the trails God has brought me through is therapeutic and healing. But I have realized that talking about it is just not enough for me. There is much more healing to take place. After many years of thoughts and several months of prayer, I know my Father helped me find another way to help heal me. That is why I am training with Team In Training and raising money to help find a cure for blood related cancers. Thank you for joining me in this journey I am taking. Every penny raised is a blessing to so many! Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Col 3:17 The latest scoop: 9/5 - I did it, I ran 18 miles this mornig & I finished in 4 hours 1 minute! For me, that's pretty good. It felt pretty good too, amazingly enough. I have found that my endurance level is fine, but my mental state needs much more pre-work to get me through the longer miles. But I just can't believe I have run 18 miles, the half marathon of 13.1 is gonna be a breeze, LOL! Totally kidding, but ever thankful it's gonna be easier than I had ever expected. 8/29-16 miles this morning & it was brutal! For me this was one of the toughest runs yet & it was good to hear that my teammates agreed! The heat was no help trying to run those hills, that's for sure. But we kept talking each other through it, & we did it! GO TEAM! 8/22 - This was another week of being very careful of my ITB injury. So it was easy running & more work on the eliptical. It was all good. Then this morning I did it again, ran 15 miles! It's great because the group of ladies I get to run with, we all have kept the same pace for the last 3 weeks. Awesome! Only 7 weeks until my half marathon. 8/15 - After bearing with some pain, I was instructed to take the week off of running. So, I did...it wasn't easy though. I felt like I was failing somehow. What was good is that I was allowed to try the elipticial & it was great. No pain & I still got a good workout in! With the rest I felt great this morning so I got to run 15 miles with my team. This was the best run I have had yet. It went great! The weather was perfect, I felt good & I stayed hydrated. I feel so good, it's awesome. Now I need to stay smart with my mid-week trainings & pay attention to my aches, pains and care for them properly! 8/8 - Today was our "Train Run". It was really cool, we drove to Solana Beach, took the train to Oceanside & then yup, you guessed it, ran 15 miles back to Solana Beach! Running by the ocean was beautiful, but very tiring too! At mile 12 I got to see my man, he was our water stop there, I love seeing him during my long runs. He is so encouraging! 8/1 - We're in our teens, miles any way. However after today's run, I'm feeling my real age, nothing close to 13! Today was my toughest yet. Over the past week my hip area has started to give me some discomfort (I won't call it pain, yet) & during today's run it bothered me most of the time. I was able to complete the 13 (actually 13.6, that's more than a half marathon!) miles. The best part of my run today, Cam & the kids worked one of our water stops. It was so fun & encouraging to see those faces when I was already tired. It brought tears to my eyes. I can't wait for race day! 7/25 - I'm tired...12 miles really took it out of me today. I'm off to a kids swimming party, think I'll be the mom who volunteers to stay in the pool! 7/18 - It was pretty neat to run in a totally different area than our normal training city. We went to Irvine & ran our 10 miles along with all members of the OCIE. It was fun & encouragingto see so many others helping to raise money for LLS. The run went well & I still had energy for Caleb's birthday party! 7/15 - This past Saturday we ran 10 miles. Wow, that's double digits! I am amazed at what we have learned and been able to accomplish in only 8 weeks of training! This morning I was out & did 3 miles. Running by myself is much different for me than with my team. I miss the fabulous ladies that help keep each other encouraged, especially on those hills in Temecula! This coming Saturday will be a fun time, we get to go to Irvine & run with the entire OCIE. It'll be another 10 mile day! 7/4 - Happy 4th of July! To start off the holliday I went & ran 8 miles with my fabulous team mates! It went very well & it really got my day going. Now it's off to swim and realx... 6/27 - Well I wasn't in town so today's 7 mile run had to be totally on my own! After my sister-in-law gave me a route to take (one she ran several times in training for her own half-marathon!) I set off @ 6am, on my own, praying for protection & encouragement. It went really well, one of the highlights was when my Father-in-law drove by to honk & cheer me on. It brought tears to my eyes & kept me going. In fact I kept going to 8 miles, instead of 7! And I felt great, praise the Lord! 6/24 - Today I sent out an email about my first fundraiser & you know what? I have been totally blessed by my family & friends generosity to help me succeed! Thank you all, I love you too! 6/20 - Today went so well. We ran 6 miles! I am making some great friends & feeling super pumped about this adventure I am on! 6/13 - I can not believe I ran 5 miles, 5 miles! And I felt good when we finished. I am amazed with myself and I am blessed by the coaches we get to work with and my encouraging teammates. We are working on a team fundraiser that I think will not only be fun, but a great way to get to know my teammates. Do you have any ideas about fundraising you'd like to share? Let me know, I would love to hear your suggestions and thoughts! 5/30 - Awesome! Out the door by 6:10am & very excited, a bit nervous & loved every minute of my training this morning! Our trainers are teaching us a certain method which I already know is gonna be a huge help to me. 5/23 - It was so fun! Today we had a "shoe clinic". I figured my 3 year old Nike's would do the trick, wow do I have a lot to learn! To keep it short, I tried on & ran in 9 differents pairs of shoes! I am so excited, I got some awesome new running shoes. Once we had our new kicks on, we did our first team run. Next week I'll find out how fast, or slow, I was! LOL 5/19 - Today I did my first training run. The goal was 25 minutes or 1.5 miles. I am so excited, I was able to go nearly 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. Woohoo! |
