Faith in the Cure

When my Mom was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in November I was in shock. How could my energetic, vibrant, and healthy mother be hit with a cancer I thought only affected children? I found out that it is estimated that Leukemia will strike over 100,000 Americans this year. Leukemia is the number one disease killer of children and alarmingly affects 10 times as many adults. I had no idea the road that this disease would take us down. I stood by her bedside as she underwent dialysis, spinal taps, numerous chemo treatments, and a very difficult bone marrow transplant. I watched this cancer suck the energy and health out of my sweet mother, but never the vibrancy. Through each bump in this seemingly impossible road she has moved forward with faith; faith in the doctors, faith in the treatments, faith in herself, and faith in her God. This faith is contagious. There were many times that I felt that this was too much to endure, but one look in my reassuring mother’s eyes told me that we all could move forward.

It is with this same faith that I am undertaking a half marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I have never been an athlete…much less ever been excited about exercise. I would never undertake this endeavor if it wasn’t to help further the research to end this disease. I cannot stand by and watch others have their lives sucked away by Leukemia. Helping out is easy. I will do the marathon. I need you to get me there. I hope that you can join me in contributing to this very important cause and donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am committed to raising $4000 by August 31st and have faith that all of you can help get me there. It is not just to support me in my leap (run/walk) of faith but to give others the same faith that my Mother has given me.
