Tucson or Bust (Part II)

Last fall, in honor of my mother and her fight against Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, I embarked on a wonderful adventure. I trained all summer, then I biked 109 miles through the Arizona desert in El Tour de Tucson XXV on November 17. (The photo is of Mom and me at the finish line.) You wonderful people supported my efforts by donating $15,395 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to assist their fight against leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers.

Now it's 2008, and it's become a different fight. Mom is still in relatively good health seven years after her diagnosis with CLL, but by this spring, her lymphocyte count had progressed to the point where she had to start treatment even though she had no other symptoms. She's been undergoing a kind of "chemo plus," a treatment that was not available at the time of her diagnosis - and was developed by researchers supported by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with donations like yours.

UPDATE: As of August 25, 2008, Mom is officially in REMISSION!!

Mom's prognosis is good, but many thousands of others are not as lucky. This is a fight that we can't afford to lose. I'm riding another 109 miles in El Tour de Tucson XXVI this November 22 because our work isn't done yet. And I'm asking you to come along on the ride with me by making a donation to the LLS.

Please help me raise $20,000 this time.

Of course donations of all amounts are welcome; every dollar makes a real difference. And for every $109 you give, I will dedicate one of those 109 miles to you.
