Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I'm training to participate in a half marathon in San Diego, CA as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. I recently started running to improve my physical fitness, but after attending a TNT kick-off meeting with one of my best friends, I realized that my reasons for running (and staying with it) should not revolve around me and should serve a greater purpose. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am proud to be helping this organization and hope you will also offer your support.
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help patients suffering from these diseases. We have a fundrasing goal of $2,900 (which I hope you will help me reach by race day, June 6) and I would very much appreciate any contribution to help me reach this goal. Even the smallest donation goes a long way, and every donation is 100% tax-deductible and is eligible for corporate matching gift programs!
Thank you so much for visiting my website and for your support. Feel free to check back for my progress updates.
Sincerely,
Christina
February 1 Update: Saturday was the coldest winter day thus far in NYC, but it was great to meet other TNT participants and discover I'm not the only newbie to running! Looking forward to more training sessions! I am starting my third week of "running," using a run/walk program, and am roughly running 3 min / 1 min walking.
February 21: Five miles run/walk on Saturday and "boot camp" workout today kicked my butt but felt great!
March 10: Ran/walked a 5K in 35:32! Better than I thought I would do... also felt longer than I thought it would too :)
April 2: Ran / walked for 2 hours in Central Park. I can't believe I finished it -- it's the longest I've ever run. Such a beautiful day today!
April 22: I really feel like a runner now. I had a breakthrough on a recovery run, feeling like I could run faster compared to when I first started. I was was feeling pretty good about my running during last Saturday's long run (10 miles) until I started getting some tightness/pain in my left calf. I hope it goes away soon. I probably ran harder than I should have ;)
April 28: My lower legs get angry at me (tight) when I run since that left calf tightness. However today during our 5K test, they seemed to be okay. I finished the 5K in 33:29 -- a 2 min improvement!
May 22: Today we had our last group training session. :( The longest we have run is 12 miles; generally I feel good after our recent long runs. Well, my knees might argue with me later on that but it's nothing serious. Nothing some ice and ibuprofen can't cure.
I can't wait for the race, but I'm sad the season is almost over. All our hard work has paid off!
