Hi,
Getting close to the end of training. This past saturday I ran 18 miles, was really feeling it after. Still have problems with my stupid sneakers so went and bought ANOTHER pair... my 4th in 3 weeks!!! Ran yesterday and feel ok, will know more after training tonight.
Not much else, 20 miles this weekend... and as of today only 25 days till the race. Crazy.

Hi,
Last night was my fundraiser and it was a complete success!!! I raised $450 and exceeded my personal goal of $5000. I can't thank my coworkers at J.Crew enough for all of their support through the last 3 months of training, from buying cookies and listening about my runs and all my aches and pains.
This experience has been so amazing, I know the economy is tough right now and everyone's generosity has been really extraordinary.
The marathon is a month from Sunday and I am in the final stretch, this weekend I do 18 miles, next weekend 20 miles, then another 18 miles, then 12, then the marathon!!!
Thanks again for all the support!

Hi,
Today is the day of my fundraiser, cookies are baked, prizes are packed... now I hope people show up. :)
The new picture is of my mentor group (minus Janneke) before the run over the GWB, from left to right, Phil, Erin, Mike and me.
Training last night was brutal, I realized I don't like speed, but I learned that I can run an 8 minute mile. Hated every minute of it... Went for a 6 mile run this morning at a nice steady pass and felt better.
That is about it, hope to see you tonight at Central Bar, 9th Street between 3rd and 4th Ave from 6-8pm.

Hi,
What a beautiful weekend!! Yesterday was my big run to New Jersey, the team met at 8am at 172 St (I know, I went above 23rd Street!) under the George Washington Bridge, by 8:20 the first of 4 pace groups were heading out... I went with the 10 min mile group and we were off! It was a slow run over the bridge and then down a hill and headed into Palisades Park, from there we ran and ran and ran... The view over the bridge was gorgeous!!! And loud! And you had to watch your back because there were a ton of cyclists, more cyclists then runners for sure! I ran for 1 hr and 13 mins and then turned around. What I forgot to mention that most of the run out was down hill minus 2 pretty steep up hills, so you can imagine how hard the run was on the way back, probably close to 30% of it was uphill and there were a few that were SO hard!! Especially after running for 2hrs. I sneaked in a few walks at the really hard hills but never long enough for my heart rate to drop below 160.
Overall it was great! Never thought I would say that!!! I am feeling it today but in a good way, even went out for a quick 3 mile run today in between watching the boys with my mom.
hope everyone had a great weekend, off to walk eva and go to bed...

Hi again,
Just wanted to thank everyone for their donations!!! I reached my fundraising minimum and am now aiming for $5000!!!
Also want to remind people about my fundraiser on April 30 at Central Bar on 9th Street. It is from 6-8pm.
So training, Wednesday was our last day of hills and it was a doozy, felt great after aside from some toenail bruising. I am on my 3rd pair of sneakers in 3 weeks and am going back to the running store today to see if I should change brands. Will keep you posted.
Tomorrow we are running over the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey!!! Seems both scary and cool... its supposed to be a beautiful day and we are heading out early to beat the heat.
Thanks again for everyone's donations!!

HI,
So Saturday I did my longest run to date, 12 miles. Actually felt great! planning on 16 this weekend and then I think another 16 the following week and then the big 20 mile run... Unfortunately got a really bad migraine Saturday night so wasn't able to run Sunday but did do 20 mins on the treadmill and then legs today. Tomorrow is 5 miles then Wednesday is yet another day of hills.
I am doing another bake sale today, chocolate chip cookies and oatmeal cranberry... both delicious but think I may like the oatmeal the best!
Thanks again for all your support!!

Hi,
This weekend I ran my first race, a 10k (6.2 miles) in Central Park. It was torrentially raining and by the end I was soaked to the bone!! I am glad to say that I ran it in a few seconds under 62 mins which averages out to a 10 min mile.... my marathon time will probably not be any where near that fast but that is also 22 more miles!
Today is my 3rd bake sale at J.Crew. Mickey the CEO made a nice donation and also made a company wide announcement to come and buy the amazing baked goods! My cookies and rice krispie treats were accompanied by Brigette Boyer's amazing mini cupcakes!!! So far I have raised $141 and I am almost all sold out!!!
Thanks again everyone for their support and donations and please keep forwarding to friends and family!

Hi,
I raised $96 at my 2nd bake sale at J.Crew!!! Thanks to all my fellow associates who bought my cookies and bars. Definitely get the sense that people will give a dollar or two for some home baked cookies, so watch out J.Crewers, I see more cookies in your future!!!
xoxo
p.s. i ran 5 miles this morning... :)

Hi,
Just wanted to do a quick update, training has been going fairly well, did almost 10 miles on the treadmill before i realized yes, i needed new sneakers. Bought some new kicks, got talked into a different brand and found out after my walk down to tribeca that i should have stuck to my old faithful brand mizuno. Had to ice my arches and have a blister to show from it but returned those sneakers and got my regular trusty mizuno's and am good to run my 5-7 miles tomorrow morning.
Just finished baking cookies and magic bars for my 2nd annual bake sale at J.Crew. Think i should have stuck with rice krispies, the magic bars taste good but well, don't package as well. Lesson learned.
Hope everyone is well and think of me around 6:30 am running down the westside hwy....
Thanks for all your support!!

Hi,
It has been a long time since I have updated my page! The past month has brought a lot of changes, my sister had a baby and I moved into a new apt!! All very exciting but forced me to take a couple of weeks off from training. I am back in full force and my runs are feeling better then before! Think the rest did me good! I ran 7.5 miles on saturday and last week we started hill training...
It's cold again in NYC so today I ran a little over 5 miles on the treadmill...
Thanks again for all your donations and be sure to remind your friends and family to donate!

Hi,
Have been running on average 4-5 days a week, and even with that today was a super hard run. Was only able to do 5 miles and it seemed like 10. I guess everyone has an off day...
Thanks again for everyones donations, I am close to my fundraising minimum but would LOVE to raise more. It goes to such a great cause and you can't imagine how amazing it is to be training with survivors of cancer and to see how this money helps saves lives.
Thanks again for everyones support!

Hi,
Slacked a bit on my updates this week so this is going to be long.
It was a good work out/running week. I took a yoga class with my favorite yoga instructor and dear friend Paulo. As usual it was amazing and I felt deliciously sore in places i forgot that i had muscles. Tuesday was a nice 45 mins run down the westside hwy and then wed was a group training run, it supposed to be a run mixed with cross-training but it was POURING so instead we just ran. I did 6 miles, I was running with some people that were pretty fast, i lasted about half way with them and then slowed down a bit and ran the rest by myself. I felt like i was running so fast but yet i couldn't catch up with everyone. When I finished the loop and looked at my watch and it was exactly 59 mins which means i was running about a 9 min 30 sec mile. That is really fast for me so I was super proud of myself! :) Thursday was cross training, Friday was an off day and today was a long run. I ended up doing 8 miles with my mentor Erin, she was a little sick so she was taking it easy, I on the other hand was working my hardest.
Today was only the 2nd time in my life I have run 8 miles, so I feel great! I iced when I got home and took a nice long shower and am feeling it a bit in my legs but feel good.
thanks everyone for your support!

Hi all,
Today was a long run, it is cold again in NYC which was kind of a bummer. We got split into our pace groups and off we went. I ran with the 10 minute mile group. It was great because I met a girl and we ran together the whole time. Coincidentally she worked at J.Crew as a planner in factory, small world. We did the full loop, 6 miles total, the harlem hills were killer, they just kept going and going... if it wasn't for having someone running next to me I would have definitely walked! The run took about an hour which meant we ran a 10 min mile.
Hope everyone has a great long weekend and be sure to remind your friends and family to donate! :)

Today I did my first official bake sale at J.Crew, raised $83!!! Very excited! Had sold out of everything by 3pm, and have had people stopping by my desk asking where the cookies were. Will do another one in a few weeks with rice krispy treats and magic bars!!
I am really excited to say that I am only $1522 to meet the required amount to run the race, i hope to raise more then that in the next few months!!
thanks again everyone for their support. feel good today and am going to do an easy 4 miles before work tomorrow.

Well, I have come to the conclusion that I have spent more time in central park this week then i have in the 11 years i have lived in NYC.
Yesterday was our 2nd saturday training run. First we got timed to figure out what pace group we should be in (i did 1.7 miles in 16:54, 10 min mile.. not bad)... then they sent us off, the coach gave us 3 options, 5 mile loop, 4 mile loop or 3 miles... i had no idea where i was going and hoped that i was going in the right direction for the 4 mile loop. Ran up the east side to the 102nd St transverse over to the west side and back down to 72nd street... it was long, and brutal and made me realize that while i may have thought i was a "runner", I'm not. Nope. All those miles on the treadmill with the little breathers, yeah, they are only helping a little. I was a little beaten down after the run but felt better after i went to the runners shop and bought new sneakers and running gear. I may be slow, but I am going to look good doing it!!!
Today I put on all my new gear and hoped on the train, got off at 59th street and started running, made it half way around the lower loop then up to 85th street and back down to 72nd and then around the lower loop again. Total 4.7 miles today after close to 6 miles yesterday! My run felt better today and i am feeling a teensy bit more confident. Tomorrow is a rest day (yeah!).
Ok, this was supposed to be a short update...off to bed and remember to forward the email to all your friends and family (thanks frank, you get a gold star for the donations you brought in)!!

Hi! Last night was the 2nd training run, 6:40 in central park, was about 18 degrees, so basically FREEZING.
We did a 7 minute warm-up and then ran focusing on swinging our arms and upper body placement...and we ran and ran, for about 45-50 mins. Needless to say I was happy to get home and take a hot shower.
Keep forwarding the email and getting people to donate!!

Quick update, I have officially passed the halfway mark in donations, by $5, but still passed. :)
Thanks again for everyone's donations and hard work in helping me to raise money.
2nd training is tonight, it's a balmy 29 degrees right now with the sun out, should be about 18 degrees once we start. A little nervous and excited all at once...

First things first, thank you ALL for your donations! In less then 2 weeks I have raised over to $2000!! Amazing!! Keep forwarding the email to your friends and family and special thanks to my cousin Sue, she has been relentless with her emails to everyone!!
Training started this past saturday, it was a cool 18 degrees out. I got to meet a bunch of people and had a great run. I took sunday off from working out and ran 4 miles on the treadmill on Monday. Today was an off day and Wednesday is the 2nd group training run.
So far so good! I can't believe that in a month I will be doing 8 mile runs on Saturdays....
Keep checking back for updates!!!

Hi, just wanted to thank everyone who has donated so far, over $1300 in 6 days!!! That is amazing!!!
A quick training update, i have been to the gym every day since Saturday alternating between running and strength training. Official training starts this saturday, hopefully it won't be one of those single digit mornings.... either way at 8:30 in the morning think of me in central park.
Hope everyone is having a good week!!!
oh and the picture is of my friend Jen, me (center), mixed nuts man and my other friend Mollie at the central park midnight run. It was a blast, luckily it didn't feel as cold as it was.

I'm training to participate in the San Diego Rock and Roll marathon as member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training.
When I first decided to do the race it was initially a way to stay in shape over the winter and raise money for a good cause, 20 minutes into the first meeting I realized this was much bigger then that. I realized that I have people in my life that have mulitple myeloma, the closest to me is my Uncle Joe. He has been fighting this battle for 8 years and it is because of money raised through programs like this that has funded research to find a cure.
All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of my Uncle Joe, my friend Camille's father, Frank's father and anyone who is battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission.
I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
