Racing to Save Lives

Well Hello or should I say Bonjour ......

I am going to do it.....run a marathon. 26.2 miles......yes..all at once...without stopping...well maybe for a sip of water or for a quick bathroom break. Yikes!!!!!!!!!

So why I am doing this?????? And why Paris first before NYC?

My cousin Christina's son, Danny, who is eight, has Leukemia. He is just an amazing kid....after seeing him this summer at a family party and seeing how he does not seem to skip a beat, even after enduring a bone marrow transplant got me thinking. I love to run....and I have run many races( but not a marathon). I began to think about what I could do to raise money for charity while doing something I love . When my company Coach decided to partner with Team in Training for the Paris marathon I knew it was a sign. Although I have always wanted to run the NYC marathon, and have worked very hard this year to qualify for 2010, I could not pass up the opportunity to team up with Team in Training. This organization raises funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, hodgkin lympoma and myeloma from taking more lives. So NYC will not be my first....Paris will be.... which I guess isn't so bad:-)

What I need from you is to help me reach my goal of $5,900.....I will do all the running ....that is unless anyone wants to join me!

Where your donation goes:

$50 will register 1 person to be a bone marrow donor.

$75 will provide HLA (bone marrow) typing for a family member of a patient with leukemia.

$100 will pay for the cost of 4 patient's chemotherapy drug prescription co-payments.

$300 will train 25 peer volunteers who can provide emotional support to newly diagnosed patients.

$500 will provide patient aid to a person with Leukemia or a related cancer for a year.

$1000 allows patients to meet with health care specialists to design and discuss their disease, treatment plan and prepare them with the info they will need during the treatment process.

$2000 provides patients with a one month supply of Gleevac.
